Starhub contacted so i tested it again from modem to pc using wired connection but it shows

Download Speed: 331665 kbps (41458.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 939986 kbps (117498.3 KB/sec transfer rate)

More upload speed than download speed.

Told me to take 3 screenshots and email them. They also told me to use http://broadbandspeedtest.starhub.com/speedtestv3.1/ rather than speedtest.net

Right now whether i connect from modem or router it always give me d/l 300 and u/p 900 which shows that the root is not the router.

Alot of consumer routers are design this way. The switch and the WiFi AP have to share their bandwidth.

Most even have only 1g link to the switch preventing 1g upload and download at the same time

really meh? i tested my uncle's asus directly lan and wifi b4, dun seems to have this kind of issues lei.

Easiest way to tell is to check smallnetbuilder review of the router. If it shows total Simultaneous Throughput under 1g, the router only can do gigabit one way. Preferably you should get 1.9g+ transfer

huh thats weird.. so if i want to use lan i cannot use wifi?

Should i just get a different brand of router?

Can use but it would be shared. 1G speed for both WiFi and Lan. You try disable see how, it may or may not help but no harm trying.

Different router I guess. Shared bandwidth not really an issue for me as I don’t need 1G for Lan and WiFi simultaneously

Check your Flash version if it's 30.x. This version will degrade performance for Flash applications

ya 30.x.. but its just too weird that it will degrade until showing incorrect speed =/

Finally the speed seems to be showing normal rating now. I will monitor it everyday to make sure starhub doesn't have problem.

Thank you so much

Download Speed: 935065 kbps (116883.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 944811 kbps (118101.4 KB/sec transfer rate)

So your issue was due to flash version

Recontracted with SB and got linksys ea7500 to replace my old dlink 850l. Compared to the old dlink, the linksys 5Ghz band really shines (i.e. connects to device faster, higher wifi speed, longer range) but the 2.4GHz band was similar.

Also got a linksys re7000 extender to form mesh network with the ea7500. I think the specs for this linksys mesh combo are better and price cheaper than 2 google wifi nodes in terms of speed and range. A fair competitor would be the dlink Covr-3902 Whole Home Wi-Fi Mesh System.
Speeds for the main routers - same 1733Mbps(5GHz), same 800MBps (2.4GHz)
Speeds for the nodes - dlink 867MBps vs linksys 1733MBps (5GHz), dlink 400MBps vs linksys 300MBps (2.4Ghz)

Both do not have dedicated wireless backhaul but linksys uses cross band to communicate with mesh. Also dlink covr 3902 only has starter pack and does not sell covr-1300e separately if you need more nodes, unlike linksys re7000 which is sold separately, scalable and works with any maxstream router. But of course if need 2 nodes, then may be cheaper/better to go for fixed mesh systems.

However, I think having a powerline backbone for mesh like covr 2502 or the huawei q2 wifi has potential to overcome the need for strategic placement of mesh extenders which can be problematic but have not seen these for sale yet or been widely reviewed.

Is there any restriction that only starhub users can use this router? Planning to buy this from carousell for my m1 connection

have anyone tried using it as bridge mode (AP)?
i realised quite a few functions are missing.
Do you have any idea what important feature is missing? ie. MU-MIMO?

Do read thru this thread as others had commented including AP mode.

For the options on bridge mode, wireless bridge, etc; refer > Here!

Remember to update the firmware before use by follow the Guide in the package.

I used the re7000 in access point (AP) mode and connected it to an existing powerline adaptor and kept the SSID names and wireless settings identical, and was able to retain the seamless roaming functions while maintaining stable wifi speeds as there was a thick barrier wall from main router. Linksys tech informed that I can also use another ea7500 to achieve the same if not better than the re7000 in access point (AP) mode. This is very versatile in creating a hybrid mesh with powerline for houses that are not RJ45 wired.
