Planning on getting a new desktop after a long, long time...

I don't need all the best parts, but mostly looking for a value for money setup.

Here's what I have so far:
MSI B85M-G43 + i5-4670
ADATA 8GB 1600Mhz x 2
SanDisk Ultra Plus SSD 256GB
Gigabyte GTX650 Boost OC 2GB
Seasonic X-Series 750W PSU
Sharkoon T28 case
Dell U2312MH 23" monitor

Have 2x500GB HDD that can be reused for storage.

Any comments? Total cost is about 2k right now.

I will consider the new Sapphire 2GB R7 260X for same performance at $220+ and get a 128gb SSD instead. The possible savings can go for a 2412M at about $330, after all the monitor is what a big part of the enjoyment of your rig.

Also your rig will need a 400W PSU (or 300W on the 12V rail), so buying a Seasonic S12 520W at $90 is enough.

From the top of my head you can achieve a top 27 Dell IPS screen with your specs at $2100. You can consider this option seriously.

Have fun and enjoy your new machine.

The specs you want is not even 2k.
1st of all you do not need until 16gb unless you are doing intensive photoshop
2nd Gigabyte gtx650 is not gonna bring you far if you are gaming
3rd you do not need a 750w psu if you not gonna SLI/Xfire
Lastly get a slightly better SSD and Chassis

If you got 2k to spare you can go for high end setup.

MSI H87 G43 Gaming + i5-4570 ~ $416
Gskills Ripjaws 2x4gb 1600mhz kit ~ $110
HDD reuse connect it in RAID if you want
Crucial M500 240gb ~ $235 OR wait for Amazon to release another round of intel 530 240gb SSD with international warranty ~ $193
MSI r9 280x 3gb Twin Frozr ~ $435
Superflower HX600 600w 80+ Gold PSU ~ $109 *
Fractal Design R4 or Corsair Carbide 540 AIR ~ $155
Dell U2312HM 23inch IPS monitor ~ $248
Samsung ODD ~ $21
Windows 8 ~ $120

Total ~ $1807 (Intel SSD)
Total ~ $1849 (Crucial SSD)

Buy at tradepac. DIY

* Ask tradepac to price match mynextcom pricing for PSU.

Sorry just chup in abit.

How much cheaper can I get my stuff at tradepac compared to mynextcom? I was checking mynextcom and found that it seems quite competitive, especially when they offer delivery as well.

If it's about 3%-5% I think might be more worthwhile to get from mynextcom for the time and effort saved. Plus you can pay COD right?

Yup I'm very ready to assemble myself. I think that's where the real joy comes in anyway.

My sentiments exactly haha. But if it's significant savings like whole rig can save 100 plus then it's a different story. Just a hassle to carry to my car. Or would they help you carry some down to the carpark if you buy a lot haha.

Just clarifying haha. How to carry the casing and everything else one shot by yourself ><

Then again, I'm gonna be in army soon might be better to just order from mynextcom right. How's mynextcom's after sales service?

Some of us carry it to Bugis MRT Station... I carried my U2412M home that way.

Get a friend or two to help carry, or bring a trolley.

Well if you think about convenience then yes mynextcom helps you save $20 worth of taxi fair. If you are driving then yes on CP and Gantry ERP you will save lol. TBH SLS CP is expensive. Ever park there 6hours $17++ lol.

Thanks for the detailed writeup.

I considered a Crucial M500 but after seeing this link (Speed Test Crucial M500 240GB vs SanDisk Ultra Plus 256GB CT240M500SSD1 SDSSDHP-256G-G25), seems like the Sandisk is a better buy. Any reason why Crucial is better?

I prefer the 16GB of RAM cos I expect to be running multiple VMs during the times that I am not using it for games.

MSI r9 280x 3gb Twin Frozr - better than Nvidia? Haven't had a AMD card before.

Lastly, I prefer if the shop could fix it up for me cos I don't want to spend the time lol :).

MSI r9 280x is equivalent to the gtx770.

The Sandisk warranty period iirc it is said to be lesser than crucial. In terms of performance Sandisk is slightly better. But you cant see the real actual performance thru your eyes.

If you want best is to find mynextcom. They should be able to do assembly and delivery service.

But take note that it will be a little more expensive.

You go home fix is faster than the time needed to wait for the shop to fix. Go home fix, ezpz 1 hour fix finish. Wait at shop easily 2 hours.

Would love to get from MyNextCom but they only accept cash or bank transfer. I'm looking for CC payment.

Anyone knows if Tradepac will be open this Saturday?

Made some slight changes to the setup, preferably I would like to avoid any parts labelled with "gaming"...

MSI H87 G43 + i5-4570
G.Skill RipjawsZ 1600Mhz 4x4gb
Samsung 250GB 840 Series
MSI R9 280x 3gb Twin Frozr (good if there is a non "gaming" alternative)
Superflower HX600 600w 80+ Gold PSU
Fractal Design R4
Dell U2312HM 23inch IPS monitor
Samsung ODD
