Funfact, yaoxiukia was in the other bidding team for ERP2. Our tender price double of the current winner but that is because we follow the tender specs closely where it dictate OBU will be exposed to sunlight and heat and deeming it as a mini computer, it should be able to withstand. We and our partners from germany, austria, america source for materials and come out with the design, yes those partners are powerhouse in computing, industrial computing, road tolling design and submit the bid. When we see the final release price, we know for sure the awarded competitor cut corners, it can never be so cheap fulfiling all that requirements. I know some will say their awarded tender price of 500m is not cheap, but if any one of you read the specs, will know for sure 500m confirm can't do it. How many cars are there in singapore and not to forget the cost of getting car workshops to install the OBU at a fast pace to speed up the deployment and the network infrastructure behind. The project is doom to fail right from the start. Those scholars who kick off this back then, well they are already promoted and happily either retire by now or in some high rank somewhere.
Means its agency issue now.

who the chief of LTA? Better come out to explain full decision making rationale.

I heard before. If don’t give to lowest bidder, very hard to explain why this is not “prudent use of public funds”

Saying that they take the highest bid or second lowest bid etc cos “it’s better quality” might not be seen as acceptable to the public as it’s just subjective reasoning. How many of us will know if the price is appropriate for the specs involved?

And in those cases where the lowest bid was not accepted but a higher bid was accepted instead, people also query if cronyism was involved
simply put, civil servants are not willing to put their jobs on the line for the "greater good"...

Who are these "people"?

At most, it's the AGO but if they really did the audit properly, there won't be any issues cos they are getting a better and more reliability system at a slightly higher price

It's like buying a TV - won't you rather pay a bit more for a LG or Samsung vs a Prism Plus? Hahah

This is just my own speculation - the tender went to NCS cos it's owned by you know who ;)

NCS ah...

Those in telco industry should know no matter how badly NCS messed up for Singtel projects, they still continue to be an authorised vendor.

Had it been any other vendors that messed up, Singtel won't hesitate to Pban into oblivion.

I'll leave it at that. :s22:

What if signal lost, or device unable to receive/ping with eye in the sky......will they claim its you tampering with the unit?

What if you drive around with that dead device all over Singapore?
Will they try to claw back what they think you owe them and attempt to claim the driver gao gao???

And then your OBU bricks, you have to bring to LTA authorised centres, pay $50 to reset before it works.
Not to mention that you will probably waste 2-3 hours there - my friend kena after his unit bricked in less than 2 months
