there is a way to lock to the network M1 is working with. You can refer to the FAQ on M1 website.

After you're back from Japan, do remember to disable autoroam or else it will continue to charge you if you connect to malaysia or indonesia's network without ur knowledge.

still feel the M1 data passport is not worth. still need to pay $25 to activate it and use own bundle.

end up bought the starhub happy travel prepaid card.

i am a M1 subscriber, also opted for HappyRoam. For JP, I Dont see much Datapassport advantage over happyroam other than you are still contactable via voice and sms(which to me its a nuisance anyway when I am having my vacation).

yup. im a M1 subscriber also but i bought the starhub happy travel prepaid also, its the best option i feel.

anyway my fone has dual sim, so my main sim card is still contactable, and my 2nd sim (prepaid) will be used for data.

win-win.

Lazy to find the starhub thread. Just to check if any daily data limit is imposed? Will give this a try for my next trip.

Yes. Can access google map if using M1 passport in china. Will bypass the great firewall of china. No point buying their local sim and then use vpn - which can be slow or intermittent.

Thanks for sharing. I will be heading to Shanghai tomorrow.

Can someone who have been to China recently please confirm that M1 data passport can bypass the great firewall of China?

I got SH prepaid lines for my kids - gona use it for happyroam 7 days 1GB x2 at $7 each. My wife and me can separate ways to shopping...woohoo plus bro is getting a change wifi for himself and us. We can save the data when together (leech on his mifi) or roam when separated... heehee...

Misleading Network Lock feature if you read the M1 APP description only when subscribing.
It does not lock you from having peace of mind and shock bills!
Read the terms & conditions ( I was told by M1)
If you are travelling to Europe, some countries are not their preferred partners and you will be charged $0.20/KB. I paid $100+ for not using the phone data when I was near the border of the country and was auto switch to a non-preferred network. Your phone will not have network lock feature as there are no preferred network in that country.

Anyone with recent experience with M1 data passport? This "network lock" is enabled via M1 app? Read a bit and we need to manually select carrier upon touch down. Correct?
