i’ve been wanting to sign with m1 earlier on (cheaper price) but the cso told me not possible as the max they can hold an appointment is one month and my house is only ready in Dec. 😩 now it has increased by $5/mth.

if i want to use mesh by utilizing wired backhaul instead of wireless, for 10gbps plan, TPLINK BE805 or ASUS BE92U?

I am in a 5 room hdb bto build in 2014 with that common walkway type of configuration.

Thought of putting main wireless router in DB box to serve my living room needs (TV, switch 2, ps5, laptop) Have a gaming PC in the living room study area but that will be on wired. ( i have data point at my gaming pc area)

And put a 2nd same brand/model router to put at the walkway bomb shelter top where that metallic ring hole is to serve the wifi for the rooms , especially the MBR. ( my current 1gbps plan = my 2nd router acts as an AP in my MBR connected via data point. I dont want to reuse this layout as having a wifi router just beside my bed as an AP....dont like that its so near me when i sleep, thus want to reconfigure it as MESH and put 2nd router at the walkway bomb shelter top.)

So the plan is, recontract to 10gbps plan and get either the TPLINK BE805 or Asus BE92u via the bundle, and go carousel buy another similar model for my 2nd router.

I wanted to downgrade to 500mbps from 1 gb plan / wifi 6 router.
Contract ending may 2026.
Just realized both plans are not valid anymore.

M1 is offering free upgrade to 6 gb with wifi 7 router with 24 months contract.

To be honest, I don't require such speeds as 500mb is sufficient for my needs.

Any advise ? have been long time m1 user for 500mb due to reliability and affordable pricing

IIRC, for the 500Mbps plan, there is no cost penalty to remain on the plan without signing a new contract. The new plans now stipulate a "contract price" vs "non-contract price".

You could hold out until the price point matches what you are comfortable with. Bonus is, if you're not on contract, you are free to take advantage of any offers that may come up in future.

I had that fear so I signed early. I do regret it a bit as I don't need the router, and the 10Gbps plan price "dropped".

I managed to delay the "fiber installation" for 6 weeks, and the ONT installation for 3 weeks after, a total of 9 weeks. I still ended up signing up for the plan 1mo early tho, so it is a bit of a bummer.

If you get S$30.45 per month pricing for the 6Gbps recontract, with free Archer BE805 router or Asus RT-BE92U, just go ahead, there will be no cheaper price any time soon.

You can sell Archer BE800 at about S$300. You can lower the price to S$276 and it will sell pretty fast. Then the effective price is S$30.45 - S$276/24 = S$ 18.95 per month for 24 month. After 24 month, you can look for new offers and I am sure there will be plans lower than your current S$30.45 per month pricing.

Previous best recontract price is at S$32.90 per month for M1 6Gbps. M1 has since increased the price gradually to S$38.90 per month now.

Edit to add:
********
FYI, I was sticking to StarHub 500 Mbps plan (no contract, S$30.46 per month) for very long as well until they offered to upgrade to 5Gbps plan at S$30.37 per month, with a free lousy router. Later Starhub offered a bit better 5Gbps recontract deal at same S$30.37 per month with free HB710. Now they offer 10Gbps recontract at S$30.49 per month with free HB710 to some targeted users.

Among the big three, Starhub is usually the best when it comes to recontract offers. SingTel is usually the worst. But with the pending M1/SIMBA merger, I believe M1 recontract offer will get worse. In fact the recontract offer already gets worse this year, even before the merger.

Meantime.... this M1 keeps enticing me with this offer:

Will surely jump if there is a breakthrough in TP-Link Archer BE805

any idea of a wifi 7 router that has more than 3 x 10gbps ports? reason being, the first wan port will be taken up from ONT to router i presume, then another 1 port to do backhaul to another router as mesh/ap. 1 port directly to a data point to feed my PC via ethernet cable or is there no such thing? saw most routers have like 2.5gbps ports instead and only 1 x 10gbps wan port. That means those ports already capped the speed to 2.5gbps..defeating the purpose of getting a 10gbps plan?

IMHO. for many day-to-day tasks such as web browsing or streaming, a 10Gbps connection is overkill and provides no noticeable performance boost, which also increases cost, heat and power consumption.

Well, polly has to wait for more routers/switches/mainboards based on the game-changer low cost/power/heat RTL8127 released to the Masses Later This Year or early 2026.

Easier way is to add a 10Gbe switch.

If you really want to get one, UCG is a good candidate with three 10Gbe ports.

Port Layout
1) 2.5 GbE RJ45: 4 (2.5G/1G/100M/10M)
2) 10 GbE RJ45: 1 (10G/2.5G/1G)
3) 10G SFP+: 2 (10G/1G)

I signed up for the 6gbps at 34.90 previously, now the 10gbps is that price. Is there no way to get that speed upgrade for existing 6gbps users?

You get free router worth about S$300 with your 6Gbps plan at S$34.90 per month. For example, you can sell the Archer BE805 at S$240 (sure fast sell) and then the effective price of your 6Gbps plan is only S$24.90 per month.

New 10 Gbps plan is at S$34.90 per month, but without the router. The only gain is about 2.2Gbps increase in terms of bandwidth which is useless to 99.9% of the users.

Take note all the ISPs' 10Gbps plans are based on XGS-PON technology and will limit to about 8.2Gbps. They should be called 8Gbps plan in reality.

In fact I think your plan is much more worth it than the 10Gbps plan. M1 has increased the 6Gbps plan with router to S$38.90 per month for a reason. The extra 2.2Gbps bandwidth for the 10Gbps plan does not really cost M1 anything. The extra router for the 6Gbps plan does cost M1 some money.

Just upgraded to M1 Broadband 3Gbps with TUF AX6000. I understand that my router may not utilities 3GBps. Through lan cable , my network can hit 2gbps. However when it comes to wireless, the wifi can only hit 470mbps. Tested on iOS and Android, same result. Did I missed something in setting that I could bosst the wifi speed?

why nobody sue these providers for false advertisements for 10gbps. haha..

What is the phone used?

What is the 5GHz channel bandwidth settings used? You may want to eanble 160MHz channel bandwidth to see if it works for you or not. Take note do not change 2.4GHz channel bandwidth to 20MHz/40Mzh but rather keep it at 20MHz because of the congestion in Singapore.

My offer's for 10Gbps at $34.90 (at 21 months) and option to add BE805 for $10 monthly.

That is not really a good recontract offer as it is the same as the website.

The following is a targeted M1 recontract offer (you need to log in to see the offer). It also has lower price compared to the M1 website. But of course it is not as good as the recontract offer earlier this year at S$32.90 per month (with free Archer BE805). M1 later increased the price of the 6Gbps recontract offer to S$34.90 per month, and now S$36.84 per month as per the following post.

I have enabled 160Mhz, reset the router. Disable QOS. Still doesn’t help so was wondering could it be the router is faulty. Or something I have missed in the configuration setting. Gonna try switch to 20Mhz.
