Finally it’s here! My unit is Made In China. If only Apple make the power cord braided black, currently still black rubber.

Nice! Aren’t they all made in China though? Do let us know if the resolution works properly for you. Mine just updated to shipped, and I just received my invoice, so I hope it’ll be soon.

Nope, some are made in Malaysia.
I tried using BetterDisplay (trial mode) first, can is can but the top menu bar kind of small for native HiDPI.

Alternatively is create a dummy screen custom then set to 1920x1080 HiDPI so the overall menu is slightly bigger.

Not very perfect, so it’s up to individual to see if one can take it, if not is wait for Samsung S9 5K” display or buy Apple Studio 5K” Display.

Overall first impression is yes very quiet, even during MacOS software update the fan didn’t even spin at all and very responsive. It’s cold to the touch and didn’t even felt any hot air

1TB SSD from blackmagic: Read & Write ~6000 MB/s

2 USB port (AudioEngine A2+ and Logitech Dongle), TB4 port use 1x USB C to USB C to my Dell Monitor and power cable. That all.

Wow the BetterDisplay menu looks extensive Play around with it and you should probably be able to find one that works for you. I can’t to try the Split View function.

Damn that 6000MB/s read write is insane! I didn’t upgrade my ssd and went with the external tb4 ssd route and am only expecting about 2700 MB/s, which I already thought was damn fast lol. Jealous!

You need to read the documentation to enable more scaling options for the list of "HiDPI Resolution". You should not be using any options from the list of "Low Resolution (LoDPI)"

https://github.com/waydabber/BetterDisplay
Read the part "Fully scalable HiDPI desktop with BetterDisplay using native smooth scaling"

Hi all. Can I have some recommendations for a 27” monitor that is compatible?

Mainly use for simple office works (email etc). There will not no gaming or videos.

Q1) Is is necessary to get a USB C input such as Dell S2722QC? Any other recommendations for 27” below $500?

Q2) For normal office usage, will the base model be sufficient? Or should I get the 16gb Ram for future proof since not able to upgrade?

Thanks!

Mine arrived last Saturday afternoon. Finally had a chance to set it up.

CONFIG: M2 Mac Mini + 16GB RAM + 256GB SSD

DISPLAY: 32" LG 32UN650-W 4K monitor (HDMI port)
->MacOS Settings
3840x2160: UI/menus too small for me.
2560x1440: Looks ok, but UI too big for me.

->BetterDisplay Settings
HiDPI option not available for 3840x2160 in the main menu. Not sure why.
Can only create 4K HiDPI dummy, then mirror from there.

Played with some settings and found 3200x1800 to be the perfect sweet spot for me for now.
This setting at a viewing distance of 60cm provides a real-world "retina quality" and font size indistinguishable from my iPhone at a viewing distance of 30cm.
LG 4K monitor + BetterDisplay app = great alternative to Studio/Pro Display + height adjustable.

STORAGE: 2TB Samsung 980 Pro NVMe SSD + Acasis TBU405 TB4 case (TB port)
Had this set up as my boot disk, bypassing the internal Mac Mini SSD.
-> 2800 MB/s Read/Write via Blackmagic
Faster than expected, and almost 2x internal 256GB SSD speed = happy camper.

TIME MACHINE: 5TB Western Digital My Passport portable drive (USB port)

PERIPHERALS:
Apple Wireless Keyboard + Magic Trackpad (both relics from 2008:LOL:)
HEDD Audio Type 05 speakers + ADAM Audio Sub7 subwoofer + Arcam irDAC (USB port)

THOUGHTS
This thing's a beast, and probably has more computing power than I’ll ever be able to utilise fully.
Honestly the ultimate bang for buck purchase I've made in a while.
I concur it runs so cool and silent that with my display off, I often question if it's actually running at all.

Another thing I observed is that with 5 Chrome tabs open + Spotify + Avast Security running in the background, memory usage crept up to 10GB.
Heavy users who wanna avoid constant memory swap may consider the RAM upgrade.

Enjoy your new lean mean computing machines guys.

UPDATE:
I decided to reboot and run the exact same test to see if there's any improvement with Safari.
5 Safari tabs open to the same websites + Spotify + Avast Security running in the background.
My findings:

Pretty much the same results. Anybody else seeing this?
Do share your findings if possible, thanks.

Just 5 tabs chrome opening can use up so much ram usage?!
I was surprised as well. Not sure if it makes a difference but 3 of those tabs were running investment trading charts with real-time updates. Plus another 2 tabs on regular news websites.
