Mine did not come with heat sink.

my thermal pad only applied to the controller, meaning I cut it into half only. that could be the reason, I will try again. Thank you.

Since you're gonna do this over anyway:

I came across a YouTube video the other day that says to use the 1mm thermal pad just for the controller, and to use a separate 0.5mm pad just for the nand chips.

This makes up for the difference in height between the two (controller was 0.5mm shorter), and should result in a better fit and a more even contact surface with the TBU405 case.

I did it 2 days ago, and have already noticed a marked improvement in temperature.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I’ve tried and seems good. However I have also reinstalled the OS, it is better now.

The indexing of my Photos still in progress, I have about 300gb sync from iCloud. Also, the Dropbox official client was so slow and keeps indexing the downloaded files, changed to Maestral all good now. Maybe the Dropbox didn’t optimize for Silicon Mac yet.

May i know what thermal pads you using? the stock from tbu405? i just returned 980pro to amazon and waiting the delivery of 990 pro, but not sure the original tbu405 pads still can reuse or not.

You're ahead of me...I haven't started syncing my iPhone photos from iCloud yet lol.
I subscribed to the 200GB iCloud storage service, and am already running out of space.

Any better alternatives? What's everybody using?

I'm just using the stock ones provided by Acasis. I already had mine on there, so it's basically to cut to size for the nand chips, and replace the one on the controller with the 1mm pad.

Do ensure that there are no impurities on it though. I used a piece of sticky tape to remove a little bit of dust. You could also use some Blue Tack to dab it up. If yours got really dirty, probably a good idea to have them replaced since they aren't expensive.

Do post results of your new 990 Pro!

Maybe you should consider exporting a bulk of your albums to an offline storage. Do you need all photos to be on the cloud accessible all the time?

Just gotten the 990pro. Returning the 980pro to amazon. So far the speedtest similar to 980pro. I applied the thermal pad following the video above. But how come can feel the cover warmer?Haha, just monitor first.

Tested the external 990pro with TG Pro and record around 55C. Its optimum operating temperature so i think is normal.

It's definitely nice to be able to access all my photos on all my devices.
Is there a way for iCloud to recognise and sync only new photos across my devices?

I'm seeing similar results.
It's well within range considering Samsung 980 Pro is designed to operate optimally between 0°C to 70°C.

Perhaps you can use icloud for photos syncing and other cloud providers for your documents. I'm using a combination of Mega + iCloud for this exact purpose.

Yes I’ll explore that option too thanks. I’m downloading it from my iCloud to see how bad it is lol.

Anyone using USB-C to HDMI cable? I'm looking for an affordable one (less than $30).

4K 30Hz vs 4K 60Hz but if it's 1080p, does it matter?

If it's 1080p, any cable that supports 1080p is fine.

However, if you already have an HDMI cable, it may be more cost efficient to get USB-C hub that has a built-in HDMI port, which will also add some USB ports/card readers to your setup at no extra cost.
Baseus makes some affordable ones.

Is there any hub with nvme and HDD that I can use for a M2 mini Pro? I am thinking to use a 2Tb SSD and maybe a 4Tb HDD in. Otherwise, I might just get an NVMe case

Very nice to know, thanks. Yes, it seems to do well at any resolution cuz the dot pitch is small enough. If you’re happy with how the UI looks (font size, size of bars, etc), you don’t need BetterDisplay.

But it’s a free download and fun to try out. If you do decide to try it, I recommend creating a dummy display and setting it to 3200x1800. That is right between 4k and 1440, and it’s a great balance. Then you can finetune it to whichever works better for you.

These are the default Apple Display resolutions for Mac Mini:

1. 32" Apple Pro Display XDR: 3008x1692 (scaled down from 6016x3384)
2. 27" Apple Studio Display: 2560x1440 (scaled down from 5120x2880)

For those with 32"/27" 4k displays, you can set your BetterDisplay's 4k dummy display to these resolutions for the same UI experience.

27” 5K Studio Display retails for $2.3K.
27” 5K LG monitor retails for USD1.3k.
Taking into account that the 27” Samsung S9 monitor happens to be a SmartMonitor, I’m inclined to think that the price will hover around $2k when it arrives in Singapore.

Samsung has listed the 27" 5k Samsung S9 monitor on their website:
https://www.samsung.com/au/business...nity-s9-27-inch-5k-resolution-ls27c900paexxy/

According to this Swiss site street price is around CHF1355, which is approx SGD2k:

In other news, Dell has also released their 32" 6k Dell U3224KB monitor, retailing for $2869:
