M50W repair thread

Side track a bit, my m10 left channel no sound.both speakers plug to right channel got sound. Left one total no sound. Could it be spoiled input and mute the output? Any advice?

That probably means you're not sending the bass to the speakers at all... which defeats the point of having a subwoofer.

Back when I did this review I did not consider the effect of room modes. A good speaker in a room without room correction will sound boomy. Because the speaker is reproducing accurately, but the room is not.

Run the below video, and use EqualizerAPO (with PEACE interface if you want) to correct the sound.

I stop the satellites from playing below 120hz..i eq such that 40hz to 120hz is from sub and 120hz and above from satellites, is that not right?

I slightly boosted 40hz and down 60z

My Volume module is intermittent; Have to press a few times to activate it Red to Blue. Search online and dont find place to buy replacement too.

Eventually I bought my replacement from Carousell for $30.

My M50W kaput a few weeks back. Constant loud buzzing sound regardless of audio played, as long as it's powered on. I still have it, considering to either find somewhere to get it repaired or just junk it downstairs because it may not be worth my time to deal with it.

My M10 also up lorry recently. Whenever I switch it on and off the power behind the subwoofer, it will give a loud popping sound. Then it got worse and now whenever I switch it on, the subwoofer will produce a loud distortion noise.

Great insight to m50w repairs.
I do have a problem which seems to be different from others.

When I on the wall power switch to the speakers, even when the speaker is off (red light), it emits a static noise from the speakers.

I think it is still caused by the capacitors, but my question is it should be the capacitors in the sub? Since the speaker is off when it emits the static.

Currently the sound quality is degraded and it needs something like 20mins of warm up to sound better, but with crackling voice.

It *can* be, based on your other symptoms. There are other causes for noise while standby however.

Fortunately bloated caps are easy to visually identify.

Thanks! I tried reading online and cables are also part of that cause.. I guess I will go with caps first before wires.

The capacitors being replaced and their replacement.

The poor quality of the printing on the Chinese capacitors is an indication of the poor quality of the inside. If you buy branded capacitors like Elna and Nichicon and etc from China and they have shyt printing like that they are most likely fake.

Hi again, may I know where u get those caps? If I personally go to simlim tower I would be able to find them? Or there is an online source? Looks like my caps are bloated..

I prefer to use websites like element14, Mouser and RS-Online. Check which one is currently having free shipping because their shipping policy changes all the time.

Websites are best because you can find the specific capacitor with the specific pitch / OD / etc / quality you want, which is difficult to achieve with SLT shops. When I went to SLT shops because I needed it fast, I had to settle for a brandless capacitor.

Bought 2 x of everything from Mouser. Since they charge 25 sgd for deliver, when i ordered double, its free delivery for the same cost

Have a set of M50W and can't increase the volume no matter how much I turn it. Anyone have similar problem?

Hey wwenze sorry for bumping an old thread. My Swan M50W speakers just started acting up today. There’s a sudden, very loud humming/buzzing sound coming from them.

Audio still plays through, but even when I turn the volume all the way down using the control knob or turning it off, the loud buzz persists. Even with all the satellite speakers unplugged, the subwoofer itself keeps buzzing. Based on previous posts here, is it safe to assume the capacitors are dead? Any advice is appreciated!

Yes but only if you visually see bulging capacitors.

Check your cables too... swap with known good cables
