nice! no big surprises indeed. i think apple did fine lowering the entry level model price to ~$600, meant for people who need a VFM Mac. i am guessing the new fan, soldered ram and removed sata helped make this the most energy efficient desktop ever.

though people who buy the higher (or highest) end models will cry over not being able to upgrade their hdd easily.

Looks easy enough but I need to get the Torx TR6 security screwdriver as mine are all the T variety.

BTW, my Mac Mini arriving today ... shipped from Apple's local warehouse. I believe the resellers should be getting theirs really soon (or may already be in stock).

Get a SSD Mac Mini and use an external HDD for the fastest operation...

Only a thunderbolt external SSD or 10000rpm HDD will yield "fastest" operation.

I have a Late 2012 Mac Mini with 2.5GHz i5, 16GB ram 500GB HDD. Quite disappointed with the fact that the 2014 ram is not user-accesible. Should i just change the HDD in my 2012 mini to a bigger hdd like 1TB + another SSD for installing the OS since it supports 2 Hard drive. I think i can save more money in this case.

I don't really game on this mac mini so the Intel HD 4000 is enough for me

upgrade to ssd is a better choice

intel hd 4000 on a mac can play diablo 3 where pc intel hd 4000 cannot.

seems mac is always better

i see, very tempting to get the late 2012 bnib model. now that the new model cant upgrade ram is pretty much cripple the mini. thanks

You should get the 2012 model while you can imo.

Since processor clock speeds are quite stagnant now, newer chips are those with lesser power consumption, heat dissipation etc. (Somebody correct me on this if im wrong). Hence buying a ~2.5 ghz quad would last you a few years.

Get just the mini from apple, and the ram and ssd from elsewhere and upgrade yourself. Upgrading the hdd is a bit hard tho, but possible

Its a mac. Haha sure heart pain one. Felt the pain when i bought my 2012 base model 2 years ago.

that should have make it more affordable, always sell at premium, not many people willing to folk out that much.
