Considering how well apple os handles resources, 8 gb can last another few years
Heck, even 4gb is enuff nowadays if u dun use mem intensive apps

4gb is NOT enough these days, just go to epic demo set with 4gb, open up safari and a bunch of tabs, you will see it beachballing already...

if you guys are worried about ram and cannot decide now, just find a 2012 in garage or carousell and use it. add if not enough then. btw 2012 i7 qc bench better than the 2014 i7 dc

I guess is depend on your usage, I am using 8g base model and during most of the time, the memory usage is around 2-3g and memory pressure is low. I am using my Mac for web browsing and some normal stuff only. If you have budget constraints and light usage, maybe better save the $ for next newer model, since the i5 processor is kinda weak

mac mini had 2 refreshes in 2009, early and late
once in mid 2010,
once in mid 2011,
once in late 2012,
once in late 2014.

Going by the pattern, the next one should be late 2016.

For 2014, ram cannot be upgraded. need to upgrade from day 1 with apple. hdd can be replaced with ssd but the 2nd bay will not be able to use. recommend to buy the ssd option and then add the dual hdd kit yourself. alternatively buy the fusion drive to get both cables.

For those reasons, the 2012, especially the i7 models can still fetch very high price... 2012 machines can upgrade rams and hdd / ssd on your own easily...

probably just the i7, you get quad core cpu, ram upgrade options and hdd upgrade options.

As home media server (e.g. iTunes) and for normal usage, 2012 i5 model will work just as well compared to 2012 i7 QC or even 2014 model.

From personal experience, gaming on stream e.g. DOTA2 will be better off with 2014 model due to better IG.

Regardless of which year of model, changing the stock HDD to SSD (or connected it using UASP USB 3.0 cable for 2012 model or later) will make the most noticeable speed improvement. 4GB is enough for normal use.

Currently on 1.4GHz/4GB/512GB internal SSD.
