agree. macbook air should be more appropriate for you..especially when you are travelling..carrying your laptop in your hand carry when you are taking a plane can take up quite abit of their 7kg limit.

i would advise getting applecare no matter which mac you get..if not when your mac gets into trouble, its going to cost quite a bit to fix..haha

macbook air is already nearing end-of-life, obsolete technology also
wait for another 6 months to get the new air or if you need it now -> buy a macbook pro is more future-proof
the pro is only a little heavier than the air anyways

applecare = no need to buy upfront, u get 1 year warranty, when its almost over then buy the applecare. imo, its not really necessary, i have owned 4 macbooks so far, none had applecare.

Not necessary to have applecare, though everyone says it is to play safe.. Rumours has it that a retina MacBook pro is gg b released soon.. Personally I feel the current macbook air is suitable for light work usage and has gd portability... Retina mbp is slightly heavier n feels more like a laptop,bt of cos more ex... bt of cos up to TS whether he wants to gt the latest laptop or is willing to settle for something outdated n yet has already very gd specs.

Yep, just need to bring in to a local Apple Authorised Service Provider to get the proper adaptor replaced, i think it's FOC - you may want to call AppleCare to enquire, they may be able to deliver one to you.

MacBook pro. It is more expensive for every right reasons.

1. Upgradable to 16gb ram.
2. Upgradable quad core and using quad core minimum
3. Bigger disk space with optional to upgrade after purchase
4. Better screen resolution
5. More ports such as usb
6. Better cooling system

If cost is a concern, MacBook air is the best bet. Or if you want to be techie, get Mac mini with portable monitor / projector.

I have Mac mini 2011 with max specifications, using SSD and 16GB ram. The technology may not be the latest compare to now but such technologies are pricy in 2011.

I also have MacBook pro 2013 13" with max specifications.

The only upgradable parts for MacBook pro is their storage. The rest are solder and "stick" forever till your logic board dead

Do take note, newer MacBook air do not come with any cooling system. Prolong usage will lead to shorten of lifespan

You talking about the Mid-2014 MacBook Air not having any cooling system or the upcoming, rumoured one?

Haha yeah, I think he meant the rumored fanless design MacBook Air. In Apple line of products, rumored products usually comes true.

That's why I don't feel that much excitement when I watch the Keynote or Apple product launch events =:p

But about shorten of lifespan because of fanless design, I don't think anyone can comment since it's not even out yet though in theory is that with the new Intel Processor, it no longer need a fan.

Won't say it's not possible because Apple engineers need to run an extensive amount of test to make sure this product don't fail quickly(last for 3 years at least). What sucks if this falls under 1 of those products that work up to 1 year and fails between 2nd and 5th year. All those without APP will start cursing because of that because Apple refused to launch a recall program.

A good example is the 15" MacBook Pro 2011 model which have a big flaw with the dedicated GFX. I'm affected by this myself and it even happened right after 3 years since I bought it. Fortunately I was able to get an exception for a logic board replacement and has been using it ever since. Scary thing is a logic board replacement is just a temporary solution, anytime later it's going to fail again because there's a flaw with the design causing the GFX card to get heated extensively over time

With that said, buying an existing line of product is not really a bad idea if you've done enough research about the product because NO ONE can guarantee you that the new upcoming model of Mac is the best and will last as long as you thought it should be.

I will strongly recommend Macbook retina if you buying it for work cause at times you may have to run heavy stuffs such as complex calculations or working with a lot data in Excel, run Windows via bootcamp or Windows VM via vmware fusion/parallels.

If you plan to run Windows virtual machine I will strongly recommend VMware fusion 7 cause its cheaper. VMware allows you to install fusion on all the macs in your household and no addition license is required.
