Macbook air vs Macbook Pro

Haha yeah, I think he meant the rumored fanless design MacBook Air. In Apple line of products, rumored products usually comes true.

That's why I don't feel that much excitement when I watch the Keynote or Apple product launch events

But about shorten of lifespan because of fanless design, I don't think anyone can comment since it's not even out yet though in theory is that with the new Intel Processor, it no longer need a fan.

Won't say it's not possible because Apple engineers need to run an extensive amount of test to make sure this product don't fail quickly(last for 3 years at least). What sucks if this falls under 1 of those products that work up to 1 year and fails between 2nd and 5th year. All those without APP will start cursing because of that because Apple refused to launch a recall program.

A good example is the 15" MacBook Pro 2011 model which have a big flaw with the dedicated GFX. I'm affected by this myself and it even happened right after 3 years since I bought it. Fortunately I was able to get an exception for a logic board replacement and has been using it ever since. Scary thing is a logic board replacement is just a temporary solution, anytime later it's going to fail again because there's a flaw with the design causing the GFX card to get heated extensively over time

With that said, buying an existing line of product is not really a bad idea if you've done enough research about the product because NO ONE can guarantee you that the new upcoming model of Mac is the best and will last as long as you thought it should be.

My 13" early 2011 Macbook Pro just died a few days ago and I agree it gets pretty hot when running on full load.

Still hope my mid 2010 MBP is able to hold on until the next Macbook refresh, so far still ok.

Have you got it diagnosed to find out which part failed? Not aware of any known issue for the 13" MBP 2011 model.

Stressing about the same thing! but rumours of a new macbook pro or air released this year - will it be worth a few months' wait?

Here are the risks of waiting:

- You never know how long you have to wait, could be more than a year?
- Stability of the new product? Design failure causing it to fail quicker than normal appliances
- As per 2nd point above, sucks if only notice it after 1 year warranty period or worse after 3 years applecare.

I'm sure there's more but those are what I could think of at the bottom of my mind for now.

Buying the current macs gives u the flexibility of research and feedback from other existing users.
