Banana Leaf Menu

Fried Chicken Wings with Herbs - Notice how small the wings are? They are akin to that of a spring chicken size and it was supposed to be very good. But we did not get to try it as our order did not get through to the waitress!!! Darn the language barrier as they don't understand a word of English.

The other two groups ordered the Steamed Cuttlefish with Lemon and I asked for a piece to try. Taste wise the sweet and sour sauce can do no wrong to this dish though the cuttlefish was a tad overcooked.

Can't help you much as I am not familiar with Bangkok. For massage, actually foot massage we always go to Health Land. They have quite a few branches around. Do note for foot massage they do not allows booking in advance so it's just walk-in.

I think this was some Fish Floss dish. I did not eat it or managed to find out the dish name.

039-BananaLeaf.jpg

Didn't ordered this Stir Fried Glass Noodle too.

040-BananaLeaf.jpg

This Spicy Steamed Pork Tendon Salad was a surprise hit. The tendons was wonderfully springy and chewy yet not to the extend of making my mouth over exercise. Soaking up the spicy sauce and this proof to be an excellent dish with just simple ingredients.

Fried Smoke Braised Pork with Som Tum is your typical pork knuckle with a twist. Here it was served with Green Papaya Salad and a dipping sauce. The pork knuckle was however not the best I have eaten, it was slightly on the dry side and the skin is not the usual very crispy kind.

When the bill came, it was all in Thai and we couldn't understand a word out of it. This was made worst that none of the staffs can speak English so it took us some time to sort it out.

Lunch ended and time for shopping, so we split up again into different groups after agreeing to meet back at 5.30pm to go for dinner. Me and my friend went up to the food court level and chanced upon these titbits and snacks.

Khanom Tako - Sweet water chestnut and coconut cream dessert in pandan leave cup. I assumed there are a few types with different fillings in them since the colour dot on each kueh was different.

I wondered how this Crabby Snack taste like.

Pickled Fruits - When we first saw these, we were like trying to figure out what fruits they are made from. Except from the obvious green grapes, the other three was a mystery to us, so my friend decided to buy a bag of them for taste test.

048-CentralPlaza.jpg

We absolutely have no idea what this fleshy fruit was. When asked, the seller could only managed to come up with a name in Thai to which is as good as not telling us. :s22:

Searched the net and it seem this was Pickled Santol with Dried Shrimps and Peanuts. Correct me if I am wrong.

049-CentralPlaza.jpg

We were debating if this was jackfruit's seeds but it turned out not to be after trying it. Anyone who have any idea what this is, do let me know.

050-CentralPlaza.jpg

After eating it, my friend confirmed my guess that this was Pickled Olives with Dried Shrimps.

051-CentralPlaza.jpg

When I asked him if this Pickled Green Grapes with Chilli was good, he could only managed a "not too bad" answer.

052-CentralPlaza.jpg

As we took a lift down to the first floor, he was still happily munching on these pickled fruits or so I thought. Till we reached a dustbin and the whole pack of fruits went into it. :D This concluded the pickled fruits taste test event.

Assorted Kuehs - Aren't they so colourful? Don't know if they are as good to eat as they look.

061-CentralPlaza.jpg

Sorry, I have no idea what this was.

062-CentralPlaza.jpg

Thai Crispy Crepes or Khanom Buang (some called it Khanom Bueng) in Thai is a crispy snack (khanom means 'cake' in Thai). Khanom Buang, a Thai street dessert is made from several ingredients including rice flour, pigeon pea flour, eggs yolk, palm sugar and a pinch of salt. All of these are mixed with water and beat well to form thin batter. The prepared batter is then poured on a flat hot plate in oval or round shape as crust. Once the thin crust turns brown, the thick coconut milk cream is plastered on it. Lastly, it is followed by various topping usually consists of grated coconut alone or grated coconut with small shrimps as topping. Sometimes, the luxurious savory toppings may come with strips of eggs, coriander leaves, chopped onion and sweetened pork as well. In the instances of sweet toppings, they can be golden thread (foi tong), raisin or persimmon. Usually the orange colored topping indicates the savory taste and yellow colored topping gives a sweet flavor.

From the upper floor we came straight down to the basement area where the supermarket is located.

These Lychees are huge!!! They are sweet with a hint of sourness. Nope, we did not help ourselves to the lychees on display but my friend's sister let us try some later at the hotel.

I like the idea of the DIY Salad Counter which can be found in a lot of their supermarkets. If only they have this in our NTUC or Cold Storage etc...

073-CentralPlazaTopsSuper.jpg

Assorted Pastries freshly made from the oven. I will take the peach one please.

074-CentralPlazaTopsSuper.jpg

Assorted Donuts - Guess the Thais having sweet tooth would flock to the donuts like bees to honey.

If that kind of Salad Bar is going to be in our NTUC or Cold Storage you will see all those Yao Kui (Hungry Ghost) swampin around ("Tasting/Sample" already . In Thailand you will Seldom see this kind of people around , they will Take/Eat what is enough for them only . Definitely won't see any Kiasu/Yao Kui people around . :s13:
