Own 10000 shares. Better to go for cash or new unit? If new unit, I getting 335 new shares. Next time how to sell away this “odd” units?

Alternatively, you can choose to receive some of your distribution in cash and some in new units, where the number of new units will be a round number.

You can set up a table in Excel and calculate some possibilities. I found that if you choose to receive 1038 units in cash and 8962 units in new units:

8962 x 0.01881 / 0.8574 + 8962 x 0.00995 / 0.8574
= 196 + 104 (each must be rounded down to nearest whole unit)
= 300

Your new units' cost price is 8962 x 0.02876 / 300 = 0.8592. Separately, you get the residual cash of 1038 x 0.02876 = $29.85.

8.3% discount is pretty decent. Opt for full units shares. You can sell the full lot later for profit. Ignore the odd lot shares for time being.

Hi Izy, i want to avoid odd lots too. I have calculated for my 12'000 lots, i can choose to receive 56 units in cash and 11944 in new units. This will give me 400 new units and $1.61 in residual cash, is this correct? thanks !
