My post-workout bulking shake was: Whey + water + oats.

Bring the whey and oats in a bottle to gym, after gym add water, leave it to sit for a few minutes so the oats absorb the water and get soggy. Chug it down.

I used to just use any whey (eg. ON) one scoop, and the same scoop, one scoop of oats. Just adjust according to your body.

Peanut butter for healthy fats and to slow digestion, more suited to other times of the day or pre-bed. I'm also not sure about mixing peanut butter with oats.

For pre-bed, whey + milk + peanut butter should do the trick. You want to wack most of the carbs after your workout anyway.

while we are on the topic of protein, here is a list i complied LOL but do note some of the servings they put on the container is not calculated correctly but approximate. I have tried to make it more accurate for some products by dividing the weight of the product by the scoop size. i got lazy and didn't do it for all tho. (well i guess you can argue that the packaging suggest approximate servings) but anyway

hope this helps:

Thread starter, gonna borrow your thread abit, as i have the same problem as you.

To all the pro down here, i really need know knowledge in this.

Background:
i am 21yr old, 168cm, 46 kg going 47kg. my family also all thin. i eat breakfast lunch and dinner, sometimes miss breakfast and sometimes eat supper. i hardly gain weight. only if i regularly eat, then weight will maintain. And i realise i, most of my meat grow on the stomach area than my arm area.

i am serving army now, everyday do push up and go gym at least twice a week in camp, even if i don, i carry weights of at least 5kg in my bunk. only got tone/shape but nvr gain meat/mass. In short i wish to become bigger size.

Questions:
If i wan to depend on supplements, which one should i get?
a) mass gainer?
b) protein powder?
c) creatine?

What is the correct way of eating supplements?
a) eat supplement den do work out? (carry weights)
b) do finish workout den eat supplement?

Thanks =)

I WAS 48kg at 175. Best to answer your questions.

Simply, you (and likely your family) have not been eating enough (hence the size), and/or not eating healthy (hence the tummy).

Read the stickies for both proper diet and training. Tons of info to get you started.

and ... "What is the correct way of eating supplements?"
The correct way is to get your diet fixed first. Then you SUPPLEMENT (please check the definition) with the little deficiencies.
Supplement is NOT the main dish. if you don't get your diet correct, no supp on earth will help.

its like, if you study enough, chicken essence will help you focus a bit in your exam. But if you never study, then 仙丹 also useless.

And i realise i, most of my meat grow on the stomach area than my arm area.

i think its because of the type of food you eat. avoid processed food, avoid those sweetened drinks, lower the amount of simple carbs you consume like white rice white bread (this might be more difficult but juz try lowering them and consume more complex carbs to compensate). read stickies to know more about such things.

and i know this cause im a skinny fat puipui =D

Thanks useryoung for your reply.

I believe everyone's interested in a cheaper and healthier alternative for mass gainers.

i've been taking whey protein powder for the past more than 6 months but this time round i decide to change to mass gainer powder. it's the 3rd day and i realise i'll have stomach upset after about 1 hour of taking it.

i take 1/2 serving twice a day which makes up 1 serving daily, as recommended by the product itself.

is it normal to have stomach upset for those of u taking mass gainer? does your body adapt and overcome the stomach upset problem as time goes by? or should i reduce the dosage further by breaking down the serving into 1/3 or 1/4 serving daily?

i dont think i'm lactose intolerant anyway...

Causes
Lactose intolerance occurs when the small intestine does not produce enough of an enzyme called lactase. Your body needs lactase to break down, or digest, lactose (the sugar found in dairy products).
Lactose intolerance generally develops in individuals as they age. People tend to become lactose intolerant around their teenage years, or during adulthood (ages 30 to 40). Generally, lactose intolerance most commonly runs in families and is related to one’s family’s genes. Lactose intolerance can also be brought on by infections, chemotherapy, penicillin reactions, surgery, pregnancy, or from the avoidance of dairy products for a prolonged period of time. Additionally, specific ethnicities are more likely to suffer from lactose intolerance than others.

maybe your intake is more than what your body can digest, hence having diarrhea.

i also encountered stomach upset when I took too much whey and not working out.

Maybe start it slowly.

whey protein is good enough, get your carbohydrates and calories from protein such as chicken breast and complex carbs such as oats and brown rice.

Don't rely on mass gainer for the carbs, you can be sure you will put on a significant amount of fats together with the muscles.

Unless all of you are full time bodybuilder...

Mass gainer is better than milo.

So if you eat like a pro bodybuilder, YES mass gainer will make you grow fat.

But if you eat 3 meals a day and works 8-12 hrs a day for a living... usually mass gainer is good enough.

No need to pay more for whey coz the carbs will be burn away if you dont eat like a pro bodybuilder.

Just saying all this craze about whey are all hype.

Unless ur a pro bodybuilder who eats like one and trains like one, mass gainer is bad for u, becoz it makes u fat with that kind of diet.

Else, as a normal working adult, mass gainer will not make u fat and is as effective as whey. Simply becoz u are not training like a pro nor are u eating like a pro bodybuilder.

2 cents worth.

This still doesn't make sense.

1. You clearly state that unless you're a pro bodybuilder, mass gainers are bad for you since they make you fat.

2. What this logically means is that if you're NOT a pro bodybuilder, mass gainers are bad for you and will make you fat.

3. It also presumably means that if you're a pro bodybuilder, mass gainers aren't bad for you and will not make you fat.

If you're a normal working adult then you presumably aren't a pro bodybuilder. Based on your initial statement, it should mean that mass gainers are bad for you since they make you fat (see #2). However, your 2nd statement clearly says that mass gainers will not make you fat. This directly contradicts your 1st statement.

Hence you do not make sense.

okay, correct way to say this is if you are not a pro bodybuilder, this is good for you.

That's pretty much what forum is for... not making sense.
