Be careful of the contactless limit of each card. After using ABT on my POSB passion (master) from the beginning of the trial, the payment for contactless fail, suddnely error upon tap on gantry, GTM reader and all payment via physical card when using contactless payment mode.

Called POSB to re-issue card, register new card to ABT and use for months and again the contactless limit reach and card fail again.

Long story short: there is a limit count to each card contactless payment, once it reach it will fail for all physical contactless payment mode aka paywave, tap on public transport , also cannot convert back to CEPAS (if you have normal ezlink value inside then too bad as GTM or control station staffs also cannot read the card.

For normal physical withdraw, swipe payment, EMV payment still work and your mobile payment on phones with Apple pay, Google pay and samusng pay and even previously enrolled mobile ABT will still work as it's different virtual card number.

Is ABT causing the cards to fail after x number of taps or all cards have limited number of taps before they conk out? So rubbish, I'm using BOC, if fail they sure take donkey years to reissue my card

Does this limit apply for every contactless transaction or just ABT? So rubbish, I'm using BOC, if fail they sure take donkey years to reissue my card

Contactless payment: paywave (bank told me usually customers don't hit the limit for normal physical contactless payment and by the time new card is issue) but ABT + Normal physical contactless will reach the limit fast as we use it almost everyday and once reach limit, it will be disabled for any physical contactless payment mode.

Mobile contactless not counted as using a different virtual card number.

Bank said to re-issue my 3rd posb passion card so I can use contactless payment, I said forget it I don't use any physical contactless for this card from today onwards and this second card was registered for mobile ABT on my smartphone so if termimate it and change new card troublesome.

PS: Accidentally deleted my post above 🤦🏻*♂️

So it's the card limitations? Any idea how many taps before it dies?

Maybe try swipe or use chip occassionally, heard that reset the contactless counter

There is a limit, whether is manufacturer of the card impose it or bank themselves impose due to security reasons idk. Just be careful suddenly you happily at peak hr tap on entry or exit on bus/mrt for physical ABT and it fail. People will start judging....

For my second passion card from new to fail around 7 to 8 months (depends on your tapping usage so it varies)

My Maybank F&F died on me today. After which I try to use its PayPass function at Watsons, also no good.

Called customer service, told me to try using the "smart chip" function for payment and claimed that it may be able to reset the PayPass component. So I went to downstairs Fairprice, neither the "smart chip" nor PayPass work. Meaning the claim was wrong.

Called customer service again, request a new card to be send to me without issue.

One interesting info provided by the first customer service officer is that LTA set a limit on the number of "wave" allowed for bus and MRT rides. I requested this number and I was given "1024".

I did a quick estimate. The previous time I requested a new card when it failed on me was early June. Till today, it's around 5.5 months. I use average 6 tap-in/out a day, so its approximately 6x30x5.5 = 990 for this particular card, which is very near 1024.

Somehow, if this "1024" thingy is true, some how this is killing the card? Just a personal observation.....

Limit is 1024 times.

Since my above post, the "reset" using the chip has been discussed and shared. So I am doing this whenever I can

I am doing this whenever I use those self service machines. A bit paiseh not to "wave" while in normal queue as I dun wan to hold people back when I can "wave" to cut the waiting time

How true is this reset thing? Can't find any official info on this

At least this is what I was told by customer service officer.

By the time I was told about this the previous time my card died, my card already exceed the 1024 times of continuous "wave". So, no way to bring it back to life.

I am adopting a strategy of using the chip on the card whenever possible, or at least once a month by conscious effort. Only time will tell if this "reset" method works.

Let’s say if LTA rollout officially nationwide ABT without solving this card limit of tap with the respective parties like bank, it be a major issue for all commuters when slowly the card reach the limit and most people don’t even know there is a LIMIT to it.

Hope they can solve it before officially rollout, till today POSB haven’t give me a response on how to solve this issue, replacement of card is not a good solution.

I have a feeling the "1024" is an arbitrary number that was set before consideration for the massive amount of "taps" for ABT usage.

If they are pushing towards ABT, they may have to increase this number.

If you follow my previous posts, I accumulated ~1000 "taps" in ~6 months, including ABT and retail purchases.

TBH the only reason i used mastercard tap was cos ezlink charged for reloads. Now that its free reload, no reason for me to do so.

What annoys me is the mrt gate readers take longer to recognise cards using ABT. Also, i had to replace 3 stan chart cards cos ABT just stopped working & when it did, the entire card died & I couldn’t even use it for paywave.

If I have replaced an ABT-enabled credit card due to damage, do I have to re-register for ABT again?

Thanks.

just happened to me this week.
and the answer is YES even if you got replacement card with the same 16 D number the expiry date is still different so YES must include the replacement card in ABT account.

not to mention if in between journeys no transfer rebate & still got to look for alternative payment modes to continue the journey.

The final cost for the trip already deducted away the transfer discount

cant tap out due error so was charged max fare for this leg of the journey.
then got to shell out cash $1.30 for feeder to home bcos no other cards with me at that time.
