mATX gaming rig

hello experts,

Here are my needs now.

1. need a bundle for mobo & CPU. mobo should be mATX and should have build-in wifi. CPU can be a non-OC one.

2. PSU - should be modular as I'm expecting a small chassis (of course care of amazon)

3. Win 8

Note: the mobo+cpu should handle high-end GPU like GTX 770 or Radeon 7950. my case can handle up to 13" of vid card. PSU should also match the vid card. need your advice on the 3 above items.

Budget: around 500-600

First thing first, dun wan to burst your bubble, but a GTX 770 is already priced at $600+. So, your budget need up by a lot if wan fulfil ur requirements.

For PSU, 600w is sufficient, that will cost $120+

For CPU + Mobo, not many mobo have built-in Wifi card, and those that have it are very pricey.

Wins 8 OEM around $149 or so

I really suggest you go and review your budget again or lower your expectations..

Can try msi b85m-g43+i5-4570 $356

WiFi just buy a wireless n adapter or if range is a concern just buy a wireless card. $20-$40 respectively.

Win8 go tradepac, $120. Try bargain them down some more. Unless you not enough PCI-E slots, you can consider getting 150/300mbps pcie adapter cards, I got the TP-Link 300mbps wireless N card for my other rig put in room, the connection is very good even though I'm still on an ADSL plan.
About $40, TP quote me 42 I don't want to gun them down much so I settled and offer them $40, boss say OK. 150mbps one cheaper abit roughly $30.

I haven't look at your original post later maybe I recommend you, now still on train and not really familiar with mobos that have in built wifi

I don't know why do you want to achieve that. Considering the factor that is a mitx chassis. Extremely small. And generate a lot of heat trapped in the chassis itself.

There are many itx chassis that can fit a titan. Cm120 advanced, bitfenix also got one, fractal design also have. This are a few that you can get to fit the titan. As long as the length is at 300mm. Where the gtx titan is at 266mm

i'm a huge fan of small PCs...

it kinda give me a challenge to it, rather than have a full tower that is heavy and bulky. i'm actually checking the casing that you said, its quite ok for me but i kinda like to have a setup that is "unique". if else fails (means i don't know how to get cubitek casing unless i'll go taiwan or hongkon), i'll go with fractal design.

do you know if ASUS P8Z77-I deluxe widi mobo still sells in SG?

Wah that casing damn good looking

Can also look at some of the Lian li itx casing. The PC Q-11 quite similar in design and cost $130. But 'only' supports up to 240mm gpu.

Understand the feeling. I had that feel as my first build was the itx build. Was using the h77n WiFi from gigabyte. Good mobo. You will find the challenge to build small rigs. The space, the airflow, the wire management, and eventually perhaps aesthetic build is one huge challenge for itx setup.

But after a few months of usage, I found out that the itx build hinders lots of expandability In future. Like unable to install sound card, unable to sli or xfire, only 2 slots of ram and sadly the WiFi module uses the mpcie slot.

Yes the Asus p877-i deluxe is available in SLS, but the price point isn't worth it. $509 with the i5-3570k.

With that money you could buy a good Matx or atx board with a haswell oc CPU.

Well nevertheless its still your decision on what you wanna get.

Totally agree. It will most likely blocked up the whole airflow coming into the case.

I've been using those standard atx mobo and casing. Recently built a simple itx machine for my uncle and I am starting to really like itx builds.
Dunno why but I think it's because I don't like having unoccupied spaces/slots. I also think for a standard user a single gpu setup and 2 ram slots is just fine. Sure expansion is an issue, but do a casual user really need a sound card or a 2nd gpu? Wifi card have alternatives like those USB ones (though not as stable as pci-e ones from what i know), or simply the ethernet cable.

The only challenge is cable management and heat issues. Modular psu is more or less a must for itx builds.

yup thats the huge problem loh. if u r going for casual gaming with mainly mainstream cards and not over-clocking then over all still ok.

i did build 1 with a full size GTX 760 with a sugo02.

1 problem i see is a bit of heat issues but the real problem is cable management. suggest buy the super duper modular PSU. it can be a nightmare, the rest all can squeeze in.

i ran 2 hdd 1 for win7 and another OSX.

understand airflow and expansion is an issue for small PCs. i had build mid-tower and full-tower PCs before, this is the first time i'll be building my mITX.
