I am actually referring to
First ASUS EA-AC87 (Media Bridge) <~> ASUS RT-N56U (LAN) wired <~> second ASUS EA-AC87 (AP)

But in theory if it works for AC87U, it should work for N56U I guess

Should be ;) but only max @ 3x3 N only.

Just to confirm, this wouldn't work with devices that are only 2.4ghz capable right?

Confirmed. Chopped. Guaranteed 2.4Ghz-only devices won't work on this asus product.

Nope, the ASUS EA-AC87 can't function as AP when set as Media Bridge (default mode).

I think one of Asus previous models (can't remember if it is N56, N66 or even AC68) can actually double up as an access point while at the same in media bridge mode.

P.S. Yes, I bought the EA-AC87... :D

Ya. That one shld work. But can the Ea-ac87 (AP) connect to the ea-ac87 (bridge)? If can we can just buy 2 units of the ea-ac87 and use back existing router to take advantage of the AC wave 2 technology and dun need to buy the more expensive rt-ac87u

Dear hawthorne,

RT-AC87U )))) EA-AC87 (Media bridge mode) <----> EA-AC87(AP mode) >> To other clients

Is this what you need? This will work.

Hey,

I've just received my EA-AC87 and I'm having trouble setting it up as a media bridge with my RT-AC87U.

When I attempt to scan for networks/aps to connect to it just scans for 2-3mins and doesn't find a single one (same thing happens when I attempt via WPS).

I don't think there's a hardware fault with the wireless antenna because it does work and I can connect to it in AP mode.

FWIW the AC87U is broadcasting 2.4GHz and 5GHz signals and all settings have been reset to default on both machines except for the SSID and passwords.

The first release of the firmware is too buggy: WPS not work properly and DFS channels is not enabled.

Hi ASUS@SG (JK) and Anyone - appreciate if you could help.

I purchase the pair of RT-AC87 and EA-AC87 after rave reviews. And I still want to believe it can work for me.

I have Singtel 500mbps fibre. I use RT-AC87 to replace the Singtel Aztech 7003. In the next room, I use the EA-AC87(media bridge mode) connected to my PC. Reason: pulling cable is out of the question, and I want the best possible throughput for the setup.

When I first set it up - the first few wireless speedtests were very very encouraging:

I got very very close to wired results.

However, subsequent PC boots in the next few days... the wireless bandwidth will drop and I will get this:

Unless I reset everything and power cycle everything from scratch again.

If there is anything anyone can suggest - I'm all ears. Thanks! :)

(both using the latest official Asus firmware)

Jordan

Each time the devices are reboot. It will auto detect the best wifi channels thus you get the best connection. Over time, the same channel get congested and connection might not be as optimal as before.

Singapore's all time favorite pastime SpeedTest Results

1). ASUS RT-AC87U
2). ASUS EA-AC87

Distance apart 3m line of sight

ISP - ViewQwest 1Gbps/500Mbps (Test is conducted when ViewQwest haven't rollout their symmetrical speed as yet)

My own results does concur with ASUS that the ASUS EA-AC87 is more than capable in delivering near 1Gbps wired speed @ 924Mbps download

Not even 2x ASUS RT-AC87 in media bridging mode can reach > 900Mbps
Faster by a bit... :D

EA AC87U to be used to replace power line plug?

Hi all, has anyone tried to use EA AC87U as a media bridge for Mio TV? Currently, I've 2 MioTV setup boxes ; one for the living room and one for my bedroom.

I've since replaced singtel's stock router 7003 with RT AC 87u, using lam port 3 and 4 for both MioTV . The lan connection in the room is functioning via a pair of TP Link power line plugs.

Is it possible to replace the power line plugs with EA AC87u?

Hi all, need some advice on EA-AC87 + AC87U set ups. I'm not a IT savvy person.

I've signed up singtel fibre 1gb recently. My computer and playstation 4 is in my room which is approximately 7-10meters apart from my living room. Understand that the fibre will be installed in my living room and I will have to run through wireless connection if I do not want cables to be laid all over the place.

Understand that singtel will provide me with their stock modem.

I have a realtek network card in my PC. My phone and tablets are connected to it using wifi. However, I was instructed by a friend of mine to get a Wireless card (Asus Ac68) to connect to a router (Asus AC3200 or Asus AC87U)

Questions
1) Do I still need to connect to their stock modem if I purchase AC87U?
2) Can I place EA-AC87 in my room to act as a wifi range extender (connect wirelessly from AC87U and lan to both my PC and PS4) or what would be the most appropriate set up for my situation. Or can my pc and ps4 connect to the EA-AC87 wirelessly?

1. RT-AC87U ----wireless connection----EA-AC87----wireless connection----PS4 & PC

or it must be

2. RT-AC87U ----wireless connection----EA-AC87----lan connection ---- PS4 & PC

or

3. RT-AC87U ----Lan connection ----EA-AC87----Lan connection----PS4 & PC

or lastly

4. RT-AC87U ----Lan connection ---- EA-AC87 ----wireless connection --- PS4 & PC

3) Do I need to get a wireless network card (AC68 for example) or just EA-AC87 will do?
4) I'm contemplating between AC3200 & AC87U. Will the AC87U + EA-AC87 combo be sufficient for a gamer like myself or will the AC3200 + EA-AC87 combo be better? Or AC3200 standalone will be sufficient?
5) Which store do you guys recommend to get EA-AC87? Cant seem to find in Challenger's website.

Sorry for the long post!

Thanks in advance!
