After applying it and making hard reset, found that I cannot connect any device to 5Ghz
What I noticed, any changes done to the 5 GHz settings will cause this issue to occur. A reboot will resolve it... Do not attempt to setup the router during WiFi due to this issue.
Yep... happening the same with my Nexus 5! The battery consumption triples (at least) when switching from 2.4 to 5GHz... And can confirm by the Wireless log that none of the devices connected to the 5GHz goes into powersave mode!
How to see from the wireless log?

I recall the previous power issue with Quantenna 5Ghz in the older ac87u firmware is that my device show it is connected to the 5Ghz ssid, but it is unable to download anything from the internet. In those older firmware, the WMM APSD enable/disable option is available and if I am not wrong, I enabled WMM APSD.

Wireless log is under System Log.

Going to System Log/Wireless Log, checking the Flags from any device connected to 5GHz, none of them will go into powersave mode, represented by the letter "P"! And I can indeed confirm that powersave mode is not working on the 5GHz, because the battery consumption from my Nexus 5 increases dramatically when connected to 5GHz!

Ah so WMM APSD was removed from the firmware. I was confused how some people had the option but I never saw it in my AC87...

my morning movie playback failed on 5GHz

I put all my settings back (as I tried to change a couple) and will test this.

I did notice "IEEE 802.11h Support" is no longer in the 5GHz prof. settings?

any reason why, or did you leave it disabled?

Streaming of movies "freezed" a number of times, until the last one that I need to turn off my TV.

Could not fast forward beyond 2x, without freezing the movie.

Came from 6687, and did not have this issue, was able to fast forward movie up to 32x.

All this on wireless streaming. Now, restore back to 6687, as it was proven more to my usage...

Any reviews on Asuswrt-Merlin vs stock firmware?

For me, I use Asuswrt-Merlin mainly to get better diagnostics (eg chip temperatures, and more detailed logs). From the temperatures, I adjusted my cooling fan voltage/speed. You need to check with power users who use things like custom scripts and vpn which I don't use at all.

Thiamhui,

Your solution is just a workaround.

A reboot resolves the issue because there's still a problem that haven't been fixed since long time ago.

Original Issue: WPS Since long time ago, you are able to disable it, BUT if you reboot WPS turns on again while on WebGUI still says it's disabled.

New Issue on 7010: 5Ghz band requires to have WPS on all the time. If you disable it, you are going to loose connectivity on that band.
A reboot as you say will fix it, because the WPS will turn on without user permission, allowing you to connect again to the 5Ghz band.

So there're 2 problems, WPS that on every reboot turns on without user permission, and 5Ghz that cannot work with WPS off.

Why are you guys having to much issues? Is it because you are flashing firmwares or the stock firmware is giving all these problems?

Dear Downtown,

7010 is unofficial beta firmware.

User can choose not to update and stay with official firmware.

@JK @ASUS@SG please look into these issues. I can confirm the first one being present since the first firmwares when I got the router last October.

Asus,
Please clarify your position in relation to ASUS. I believe it will clear everyones doubt whether they are talking to the right person.

If JK is not from ASUS, then I wonder where he got the beta firmware with change log from… 😁

Dear Hardcor,

I am directly from ASUS Global- Singapore.

If you have any issue for ASUS product such as Motherboard, Graphics card, Sound card, pre-amp, router, portable router, wireless client, server, headset, ROG GR6/GR8, monitor, projector, car camera, IP - camera, media player, Keyboard, Mouse, Digital door, chromebox, Vivopc and Vivowatch. What is featured distributor? < Just a title that Hardwarezone admin give me.

Anyway renfred have been helpful in the forums and he has been assisting forum member and solve their issue.
Just like everyone here like thiamhui, ankhazam and many more. Hope you don't hate him. Sometimes people have mistaken and given the wrong answer.

Dear Francis,

The router can't control the device power settings or switch device to saving mode, so the router cannot cause any device drain or leak power.

Best regard,
JK

You sure router cannot cause device battery drain by setting DTIM interval and beacon interval?:D
