Anyone know if using Starhub is there actually any setting to be done on the router?
Mine the WAN port keeps disconnecting.

Starhub is not as complicated/restrictive as Singtel. If hard resetting the router still doesn't work, there is a good chance your router has a problem. This router has a notorious history of problems.

Do what you can do first. ONT and Starhub are beyond your control. Swap in another router or pass the router to your friend to verify on his/her ONT.

Dont act recklessly. You are already short of $$$ from the other thread. Changing router will cost you money.

Don't you have a friend or old router to verify? This verification doesn't cost any money.

I installed google Chromecast and was happily streaming videos for a couple of hours.. then suddenly all connections dropped from my router.. after turning off and on a few times I realized it had auto-reset it back to factory defaults.. I had to re-setup my SSIDs, passwords and admin login stuff all over again (not easy when the router page is in Japanese :s13:)

Firmware = 3.0.0.4.380.4180 on AC5300.

Does anybody have any issues getting this to work with Singtel fibre?
On the previous firmware, I had no issues getting an IP after choosing one of the Singtel profiles.

Now all it tells me is the ISP DHCP isn't working properly. (I've gone through all the reboot / turn off possibilities).

you might need a reset for it to work, and cannot restore from saved config file.

After using mine for more than 2 years, I'm also having similar problems like yours. It will lost connection once every few days and it took a long time to get the connection back. I tried reset to default every time also to no avail.

I did some troubleshooting. When I connected my PC direct to ONT, no problem. When I connect my PC -> N66U -> ONT, no problem.

Problem only starts when I connect PC -> AC87U -> ONT. So confirmed AC87U problem.

When to the service centre 3 days ago. They said intermittent problems quite difficult to troubleshoot so gave me a new set also H/W Version A2 (MFG Year 2016).

Bro,

Guess we're unfortunate to get this issues.
Hopefully this new set will totally eliminate our problems.

Not yet fix it and most probably over this weekend.
How about you?

Hi guys,

need help with my network.

im using the Asus RT-AC87 running the latest Merlin firmware 380.64_2.

using a D-Link DWA-192 adapter on my desktop im now facing this network problem whereby after every fixed period, there will be a split second network cut as shown in the speedtest image below.

i have tried all means (i was originally using the original Asus firmware but decided to try the Merlin firmware to see if there is any diff), flashing to latest firmwares, resetting the router and etc. but issue persist.

maybe anyone can help ?

Try run the MTU test. You can get it from here : http://www.softpedia.com/get/Network-Tools/Network-Information/MTU-Test.shtml
Set it on your router and do the speed test again.

Explaination
The MTU setting controls the maximum ethernet packet size your PC will send (you did know the Internet works in packets, didn't you?). Why a limit? Because although larger packets can be constructed and sent, your ISP and Internet backbone routers and equipment will chop up (fragment) any packets larger than their limit. These parts are then reassembled by the target equipment before reading. This fragmentation and reassembly is not optimal.

**Note : You add 28 bytes because 20 bytes are reserved for the IP header and 8 bytes must be allocated for the ICMP Echo Request header.

Alternatively manual method to determine MTU Setting can done.
Refer to this clear and concise faq from TP-Link :http://www.tp-link.com/us/FAQ-190.html

Typically, ASUS router is not great due to poor firmware implementation.
