Hi there,

I am currently using this router.

1) Is there a way to set the router with multiple administrative username and account?
2) is there a way to set a VPN access to this router with 2fa, currently I have seen there is OpenVPN only (I am using static IP as VPN access)
3) I currently have internet at 172.168.1.35, is it possible to set another static IP at 172.168.1.36?

I had similar issues like yours, very unstable after almost two years of usage. It started off liked yours, unstablr but usable. Then it got worst to the point that it gets really hot, and starts disconnecting systems more frequently. Updated to latest firmware, reset to factory, reconfigure, still same issues. Read online, quite a number of similar issues where the ac87u heats up and gets really hot and uncomfortable to the touch. It works quite stable when I keep it cool with a notebook fan, but dont think it is supposed to be like that lol. Anyway I contacted Avertek, and they said they will swapped an AC86U one to one for me. Warranty expiring in 4 months time. AC86U is a notch above AC87U in terms of hardware specs so I guess it is a good swap. So maybe you should think of escalating to Avertek :D

And to add on, yes I did all I could on the channels too :p.
this is happening to my ac87u too

soft rebooting apparently doesn't help.

what i realised is you have to let the capacitors run dry before u turn it on again. while other less advanced routers u just have to disconnect power for 10-20 seconds, this particular router needs at least a few minutes.

so i was having problems with internet and wifi yesterday, all soft rebooting attempts just made it worse. then i just turned it off and did something else for 20 mins, then i turned it back on. it's working like new since

this router is probably so advanced its capacitors need more time to discharge. give it a few minutes off to restart and it works good as new

Hi any recommended higher gain antenna for RT-AC87U ? Thanks.

This vs RT-AC1300UHP , is RT-AC1300UHP with its 5dBi antennas better range?

If you are looking at maximum coverage, you are better off looking at mesh rather than wasting money on antennas.

Any owners can advise?

if u could place it near the center of the house, shouldn't need to worry any wifi dead spots for 2.4Ghz.

been using for many years this router as AP (5rm HDB 115sqm). Not a single issue, except the temp kinda high due to Asus's lousy design. So i remove the top cover and added fans. temp never cross 50 degree now.
i also added 2x 10dbi antenna

5Ghz speed on iPhone X(i guess was 2x2 radio max theoretical speed is 866Mbps) - (M1 500Mbps)
