i called up asus hotline. mention about this 5ghz issue. I told the lady behind the phone that it is a common issue among those who own this router. She like unsure and ask me to bring this down to asus service centre to get a technician to look at it. i ask for a number to the technician, she said she do not have. O_O

Its funny they do not know of this issue or only hwz forumners unlucky, get to experience this 5ghz problem lol..

I ask normally what is the practise, whether will they do a 1 to 1 exchange etc... she say she dont know again and got to check with the technicians. sigh.

Do not be too hard on the girl...frontline reception like that knows almost nothing. You need to get in touch with a technician.

I had a wireless LAN router from Asus years ago and had a problem with it. Brought it down and they did a simple one for one swap.

I guess the more practical option is to RMA the unit .. and allow to test and repeating RMA without question asked until a good unit.... but it will be troublesome....

Best is local Asus arrange for a delivery of set of your door step for each set exchange...........:D (just joking which I think wont happen....:D)

Again ... back to basic question .... why some unit can last 40 days before need to reboot..... some few hours hang at 54G ?.....

I did a RMA before. The situation persists. No point doing RMA because clearly, the firnware is the issue and it takes more than the firmware itself to justify the fault, example your devices...

Moreover, there is only a fixed number of sets you can RMA per designated window period. I dont think you can continue to RMA in that 3yrs period if u abuse this privilege..

I RMA it too..no point same issue.! if they cant solve it by month end.. will be ditching it soon.

i already put it back to box, swee swee waiting for 2nd hand buyer. haha.

now fallen back to aztech 7003. aztech more stable than ac87u. at least my toggle can be watched smoothly in HD resolution without any disconnection for whole day.

on ac87u, hopes aren't too high.

I went to change to a new one too.. they gave me a brand new out of the box. but the same issue happening too!!!!

kernel: br0: received packet on vlan1 with own address as source address

This is broadcast storm or so called spanning tree issue!.. when ever this messeges pop up on your router system logs..all the wireless seems lagged or either not working..have to reboot the whole router!

really bad firmware ! RT87 really suck big time this round!

Thinking of selling it and getting a Nighthawk X6 instead..hmmmm

Just tell Asus to take back la. Why not let us arrange a day go to their service center together? Or write in to them?

Buyer should already know of this issue. They can go and rma themselves if they dont believe its a firmware fault.

You see, pay for 399 more exp or buying from me more expensive?

All still waiting. We don't want to sell and problem solve

The situation now that same firmware .. Some perfectly or at least 40days need a reboot ... But some few hours hit and hit ..

It don't sound like one firmware fix all.. Which we could be going the wrong direction ..

Of all we know it could be the 5G onboard chip set certain batches have issue .. When you RMA you still get the same batches.

My set from challenger could be a different shipment.

I dont think its a batch issue. It's due to certain configurations bah.

I'm still holding on to mine because i dont wanna give up yet. I am still holding on to the faith that a new firmware is coming.

If the upcoming firmware is still not solving the issues i have, i will sell off already.
