Hi Asus@SG

I just got this RT-AC87U Router delivered by Challenger today

I am also facing issues with 5ghz dropping connection on Asus RT-AC87U with my Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 tablet, this did not happen when I was on Asus RT-N66U

Tab Pro10.1 (SM-T525)
Baseband : T525XXUANC1
ANDROID 4.4.2
Build No : KOT49H.T525XXUANC4
5g

My xperia z ,redmi 1s, mums redmi1s ,dad's galaxy s3, maid's iphone 4 all connect with no issues.

Also is there a way to transfer the DDNS from asuscomm.com from the RT-N66U over to the RT-AC87U?

There is no password for DDNS from asuscomm.com. What will happen if 2 or more users are using the same host name?

Halo Jurong, you mean your dc happens when you're on 2.4ghz band too?
I experienced the lag before...... it takes a while... when the router is fresh from reboot.. its usually ok. However for me 2.4ghz is ok..... no dc and other funky stuff.

Lag can be quite bad..... for my case.. attaching a pic to whatsapp recipient can take quite long.... somehow I feel the system is still holding to the unused vram or wifi bandwidth without freeing it up.

Nope. When the phone drops from 5ghz to 2.4ghz, It won't dc out of 2.4ghz. It will stays there. Just that there are lag-ness in the speed. Same as you, sending whatsapp messages, loading facebook and the comments takes very long. When you go into youtube app, the list of videos also loaded slowly. But when you load video, it's fast.

Lagness occurs on both bands

Hi Asus, i have read through the pages and found that AC87U seems to be having lots of issues. I have just subscribed to Singtel Unlimited Fibre, should i risk it by buying this router ? when will your new firmware be out ?

seriously thinking of getting the Netgear R8000

I wonder how he will answer you. It's like you are asking a starhub staff should you sign singtel/m1 because it seems like starhub network got issues.

You are right, I should not be even considering getting this. Tks

More info,
Just tried to see how fast Note 4 and S6 edge drop out of 5ghz band.

Before when i went brush teeth, both devices was on 2.4ghz, i manually set both to 5ghz.
When i came back after brushing teeth, S6 edge was on 2.4ghz while Note 4 was on 4G and connecting to 2.4ghz wifi.

On the other hand i have a old Note N7000 and switched on a few hrs ago and its still on 5ghz band.

** i took like 5mins to go brush teeth and come back

Hi JK,

I mentioned before, my IP camera video via 87U is not smooth (lag by video frame). Upon reboot, it will work fine for a day only.

56U as a AP when connected locally using 5Ghz has no issue.
Even remote in by 4G is much better than 87U 5Ghz local network.

I think is the same root problem for lag or DC in 87U.
Using IP camera can see the connection problem instantly thru the video.
Please consider to use this method to check for connectivity.

Thank you

The lagness I had was only on 5ghz band. And I sorta assumed its the qualcomm chip that is the problem. Problem of compatibility. For your N7000 - if it stays connected to 5ghz... can you also check if there is still connectivity to WAN. Mine dropped out of WAN.. ie no internet connection.. but remains on LAN. This happend despite I RMA once. Perhaps you wanna try your luck and do a RMA to see if it helps...

I've switched back to 68u after that..

Dear Samsung user,

About Note4(Murata custom-made RF module for Samsung), we are still testing it every single day.
And it is really hard to reproduce. But we will keep trying until we found it.

Possible drop me an pm include your system log from router?

Best regard,
JK

Haven tested out. I dont have alot knowledge in internet routers part.

WAN as in the output from router and LAN is input to the router?
haven got time to test Note. Yesterday left it over night and morning it still remains on 5ghz.

I only know lagness is on 5ghz. 2.4ghz i haven really try yet. Sometimes will lag

WAN is the internet connectivity provided by your isp....

LAN is the connectivity between devices within a local network. For example pc1 is able to access content on pc2...

you can try surfing with ur n7000 and see if there are still internet connectivity. Sometimes having wifi connected all the times doesn't mean internet connectivity is not interrupted.... i had the problem where device seems connected and wifi haven't dropped... but when i try surfing.. there is no internet connectivity

So fed up that i packed up my 87u... and brought out the old 68u. Waited for sometime for improvement and positive development here and the snb forum. Nothing positive for sometime.. then eventually got rid of my 87u.

Hello ho_kuru,

Besides no connectivity to the Internet while using 87u, did you also experience performance issues on 5ghz band like lag or slow download speed? I realised using 2.4ghz was much faster. Goodness what is wrong with this router. Should I just dump this router and get 3200 or netgear?

Yup, I did experienced lagness with the 5ghz band... not so much on the 2.4ghz.. or maybe I din notice it.. that the reason I concluded that the qualcomm chipset is the culprit...

Tricard n redfred is very happy with their ac3200. Maybe u wanna give the 87u somemore time. Jong is quite happy with his 2x 87u. For me personally, i dun think is worth my time.

Dear all,

Upcoming there is a new SDK driver update which improves the router

The SDK driver will be released ETA - end of May/June 2015.

I believe the new wireless driver will improve RT-AC87U performance and enable features.

Meanwhile, let us resolve the bug.

Best regard,
JK
