Just a warning to you guys out there buying sky blue coloured shirts.

I bought a G2000 shirt during a sale and washed it once only. Dye spots started appearing the shirt especially at the yoke.

I brought the shirt down to G2000 and they took it back to the head office for analysis.

A customer service officer called me and said it was due to the dynamo that the dye came off. I should not use "strong detergents".

I definitely think this is bull-**** as (1) I have similar color shirts and used dynamo without any problems and (2) I'm sure many Singapore households use dynamo.

I think it's most probably their dye and QC Problem.

Eventually I had to throw away the shirt without even wearing once.

g2000 has discount card..not quite sure of the requirements..probably like $300-500 receipts?? i know as members...u get to shop on ur birthday at 50%...

tuff luck anthony...could be a one-off thing or just that batch of clothes...havent shop in g2000 for awhile... but as they always say...u get what u pay....i got a few g2000 shirts...after a few wash..all "qi mao"...not wearable also....

g2000 has discount card..not quite sure of the requirements..probably like $300-500 receipts?? i know as members...u get to shop on ur birthday at 50%...

think most probably need to purchase S$150 - $200 before you are eligible for the member card bah... (if I remember correctly)

mine is...3 blue shirts (different shades/fabric designs...), 1 white-based-blue strip, 2 blue-based-white strip (different shades/strips/design), 1 white-based-blue-check, and 1 blue-based white/red/brown strips

maybe will get some brown/black shirts...hmm...have to wait for wallet to recover first though..hahaha

September 6, 2005 -- As if the launch issue of Men's Vogue, which hits newsstands today, was not enough of a harbinger, signs everywhere point to a renewed interest on the part of men regarding their appearance.

Sales of men's apparel grew 11 percent to $9.5 billion last year, the first annual increase since 2000, according to the Census Bureau. Sales for the January-June period of this year are up 21 percent, compared with the same period a year ago.

Designers are launching new menswear collections, some of which will be on display later this week, when Olympus Fashion Week gets under way.

Narciso Rodriguez, famed for his figure-hugging clothes for women, is said to be quietly working on his first menswear collection.

Menswear designer John Bartlett is relaunching a sportswear collection this spring, after a hiatus of nearly four years. And David Chu of Nautica fame is designing a men's line under his own name, which will debut this fall at Saks Fifth Avenue.

"There's a sense of newness and excitement" in men's dressing, Chu said. "After so many years of dressing down, men are interested in dressing up."

David Wolfe, creative director for the Doneger Group, called the resurgence in menswear no less than revolutionary, a trend that is indicative of changing social norms and gender roles. Then he paused, and not one to take the whims of fashion too seriously, added: "Men have always dressed for power," now they are dressing to attract women.

The hunger for new fashion by a gender that tends to favor power drills over the latest prints is not relegated to the runways. Kohl's has been so encouraged by a recent upturn in men's apparel sales that it began adding to its offerings, beginning with the introduction of suit separates last spring.

At Abercrombie & Fitch, sales of men's clothing now account for a greater mix of the total, some 38 percent, than they did in 2000, when the chain sold 34 percent of its clothes to men, said spokesman Tom Lennox.

The market for women's clothes is nearly four times bigger than for their male counterparts, and women tend to not only buy more, but to shop more frequently than men, analysts said. But that too is changing.

"Guys used to have one pair of black shoes and one pair of brown shoes," said the designer John Varvatos. "Today, they are becoming more like women, especially when it comes to shoes."

Men had tired of shopping after years when stores offered little that was new besides timeworn khakis. That started to change about 18 months ago, when woven shirts in bright colors and bold stripes became all the rage. Some forecasters have wondered weather there will be enough newness in fashion this season to keep men coming back for more.

Designers, such as Jerry Kaye, of Perry Ellis, say that fine-gauge knit sweaters, polo shirts and Henleys are set to replace woven shirts as the uniform du jour.

Varvatos will show fine-gauge cashmere sweaters that have been dipped dyed, and button-down jersey shirts, perfect when worn under deconstructed blazers, another look that is expected to be hot this year.

Also significant is that men seem willing to spend money on the new looks. Kenneth Cole is rolling out a new collection for men with price points that are twice as high as the original line. When testing the collection in its own retail stores last year, Paul Blum, the president, said he was surprised that the higher prices didn't discourage male shoppers.

"It's remarkable," he said, "that men are willing to pay much higher prices than they traditionally would for fashion."

Grooming TIPs

why men should exfoliate

Exfoliation is the process of scrubbing off dead skin cells to reveal and expose "younger," fresher skin. The shedding process unclogs pores, keeps skin clean and helps reduce acne breakouts. It's usually the first step in cleaning your face, to be followed by washing your face with soap (preferably one with hypoallergenic properties) and finally, moisturizing.
Unfortunately, many men wash exclusively with plain old, hotel-grade soap. It's certainly enough to keep you clean, but it's not the best bet to keep your skin healthy. Indeed, bar soap dries out your skin, its ingredients sometimes clogging pores and leading to rougher skin in the long run.

Exfoliation also specifically helps men in a huge way: It exposes the face's hair follicles, allowing for a better shave. And we all know that a smoother shave is practically the holy grail of a man's morning routine.

exfoliate part by part:

Men have hair all over, and hair traps oil, dirt and grime. For men, there are three major areas in need of regular exfoliation: face, back and chest (exfoliating your feet and hands is great, but not essential).

Face
The skin on your face is quite different from that of a woman's. It contains larger pores, whiskers, more collagen and elastin (fibrous proteins that help hold everything together), a denser supply of blood vessels, and it produces more sweat. Put all these factors together and a guy's face can attract a fair amount of dirt.

So, the most important component of any good facial exfoliation routine is the cleanser/foamer. Brands that sell top-notch affordable cleansers include Clinique, 4Voo.com, Baxter of California, and Nivea for Men.

Most of these products contain some combination of granulated pumice, sea salts, fruit seeds, salicylic acid, alpha-hydroxy acid, and beta hydroxy acid, all of which serve to loosen and slough off dead skin cells. Some even aid in the formation of collagen.

To get the most out of your exfoliating cleanser -- and to help work it into a good lather -- you should use one of the following methods of application.

Exfoliating gloves: Okay, these reusable nylon gloves are more suitable for women, but they work. Just put them on and gently rub the cleanser around your face. The gloves' massaging motion will also improve circulation and open pores. Just keep in mind the fact that you use them on the down low...

Sponge: An abrasive sponge, or loofa (a sponge made from the dried fibrous part of the loofa plant), works the same way as gloves, but it has the advantage of whipping the exfoliating cleanser into a richer lather that gets deeper into the pores and the skin's upper layers.

Other Facial Exfoliants
Exfoliating mask: This is a plaster-like concoction that goes on your face as a liquid goop, hardens, and then peels off to remove dead skin cells, dirt, whiteheads, etc. It can be pricey (not to mention girlie), but its thoroughness more than makes up for it.

Pumice soap: This is an inexpensive exfoliation classic -- it's a bar soap that includes granulated volcanic ash that really scrubs hard. The only disadvantage is that pumice soaps require a fair amount of scrubbing to get a good lather going.

Note: However you choose to exfoliate, don't forget to moisturize. Exfoliating can dry out already dry skin, but a moisturizer will help stabilize your skin and "feed" the new, young skin you've exposed.

Chest/Back
Exfoliating your back or chest is not nearly as complicated as your face, but it does require you to be in the shower.

The first step is to shampoo your hair and flush out all dirt and grime.

Next, grab a loofa sponge (one with a wooden handle), apply some of your exfoliating cleanser/foam on the loofa, and gently scrub all over your back in circular motions. There are slight differences between body and facial exfoliating cleansers, so be sure to use one that's made for the body (they're more abrasive).

Don't be afraid to really scrub hard on the ol' back -- it can take the punishment. Consider your hard scrubbing payback for all the zits your back produced over the years!

Next, exfoliate your trunk (chest, shoulders, stomach) the same way you would your back, but scrub more gently; the skin on your stomach can be thinner and more sensitive.

For your legs, turn to exfoliating gloves. They're less abrasive, and they can get in and around tough areas (like around your groin) with greater ease than a loofa on a stick.

When all else fails, a good back "facial" never hurts. At spas like New York City's Nickel For Men and the Spa at L.A.'s Le Merigot, you can get your back waxed, exfoliated and treated for in-grown hairs and acne, in about an hour. These sessions are pretty steep (they can run you at least $110), but the high-powered cleansers and expert hands definitely beat a lonely loofa in your shower.

Hands & Feet
Exfoliating your hands and feet is not always necessary. Many women like a man with a rugged grip, but still, nobody likes cracked, calloused hands.

To exfoliate hands, a pumice stone will do (just rub it around your digits), but there are all sorts of inexpensive, traditional methods that can be used as well. Simply mixing sea salt with lemon juice and rubbing gently should do the job. And, of course, as soon as you're done exfoliating, use moisturizer to soften and heal your skin.

For your feet, the same rules apply. Exfoliate with a pumice stone, or use an exfoliating mask -- just get your woman to use her tools and treat your feet. Either option will help keep your feet callous-free and free from bacteria.


healthy skin is easy

You know your body best, so only you can decide whether to exfoliate daily, every other day (three times per week is a good routine), or maybe just give yourself a nice scrubbing once a week. Exfoliating too often can damage the skin; exfoliating too little may let your skin's oils run wild. Whichever schedule you settle on, recognize that while exfoliating takes some extra effort, by doing it, you'll ultimately have to worry less about wrinkles, flaky skin and acne. And that's a tradeoff every man should take.
