I am thinking of ditching singnet fibre because of the poor signals in my 4room hdb unit. There are many deadzones in the rooms furthest from the modem.

Questions -
1) Which ISP is highly recommended at this point in time? in terms of stability and speed? also value for money in terms of paying the basic subscription rate for the best modem/ router.

Basically using for home office and gaming. I am considering between Starhub and Myrepublic.

2) As I am also looking at using mesh to strengthen the wifi signals in the rooms, is it recommended to get the mesh bundled with fibre plans or pay on my own to get a separate mesh ?

3) I see that mesh have 2 or 3pk bundle. if i need mesh in 2 bedrooms, do i get the 2 or 3pk bundle?

Sorry for the noob questions, this my first time getting mesh network.

It sounds like a WiFi range issue rather than an ISP issue.

From my experience 1 well place router or WiFi access point can cover a 4 room HDB flat.

Singtel has their own brand of mesh stuff. It's probably more cost effective to buy their mesh than subscribe to a new ISP.

well placed router.. quite difficult, cos of the layout of the furniture and fibre point.

another reason why I am changing is because of my phone. it has problems with wifi connection to singnet. as contract is up, i am thinking of changing ISP to determine if it is ISP problem and not phone problem.

WiFi≠ internet. All ISP other than Singtel allows you to use your own router. For Singtel I think you can add additional WiFi access points for better WiFi coverage.

Also sound like a phone issue not Singtel or poor WiFi coverage.

Leveraging on this thread. So. now I am on M1 fibre and I have a router in my living room.

If I intend to go into WiFi mesh, is it just to buy say Asus Lyra Trio pluck out my router and replace it with a primary WiFi point? Do I need to resubscribe to some kind of WiFi mesh plan from M1?

You M1 internet plan is not tied to the router so you can just swap in the mesh WiFi.

Thank you so much. Am a noon so have to ask. I see a good deal on Google WiFi hence asking.

So I will leave my M1 Huawei ONT in the shoebox. Replace the router in my living room with one of the Google WiFi Nod right. Any configuration needed? Or just plug and play?

Like any other mesh/router you will have to set your WiFi SSID, password etc.

Go check m1 website, if you are existing subscriber can get the trio cheaper compared to retail prices.

Soory noob question.

Do I need a mesh network if I have ethernet point in every room, when I can setup old routers at that I have and all have the same SSID name?

Is this the same as mesh network?

Thanks.

Yes. It will just be harder to manage as you need to login to each individual router to change settings.

mesh systems are easy to setup. when using traditional wireless routers and APs its just a bit more complicating such as setting up wireless roaming, etc.

My EA8100 also can cover whole unit but 1 bar on certain places like my master bed room. Run youtube also sometimes can disconnect. So its a NO GO! :(

Depends a lot on placement also.

2.4Ghz is good for coverage, but not good for speed.
5Ghz is good for speed, but not good for coverage - thick walls and metal are big hindrances.

Not possible la. My maisonette will definitely have dead spots with a single router (even if it’s the most ex one). Esp 2nd floor toilets.

And one single router will not be able to get 5ghz everywhere. I would want to be on 5ghz all the time and particularly anal about Low speed. Still finding the ideal solution for it.

Noob question... A single mesh only has 2 ethernet ports right?

My living room currently has a tplink 4 port router that has my television, ip radio and Web cam wired connected to it.

If I use a mesh, I will just need to get a switch to link up my TV, ip radio and cam?

Ont-->mesh-->switch-->tv/ip radio / cam
