I do not normally care for MTK Helio chipset based phone now. But it is interesting that Redmi seems to put Helio G96 as a higher end one than Qualcomm SD680. Realme seems to be the other way around. Guess I do not care about SD680 either. But if I need to choose between the two, I think I will choose to go with SD680.

SD680 vs Helio G96 (G96 has higher CPU performance but worse thermal and battery life).

Wow, what's the low <$99 range phone
I think only seen redmi and realme low end one
And even then it's usually clearing year old stock and not newer release

I have mentioned my usual option, but I made some exception for my latets purchase on 10.10 .

There was an offer from Poco Shopee official shop for the Poco M4 Pro 5G version (MTK Dimensity 810), 6GB+128GB at S$259 (S$349 - S$79 Poco voucher - S$20 Shopee voucher). The user interface seems to be quite okay and my father-in-law likes it so far. His previous Huawei Nova 5T was a good phone but the speaker suddenly got no sound.

1) No Samsung

Looks like I have to include Xiaomi,Redmi and Poco. With Realme out of the picture, it is hard to beat Poco in terms of price performance ratio.

2) 8GB RAM, 128GB Flash storage or 256GB storage

For my own use I will stick to the above. For my parents-in-law, 6GB/128GB is acceptable.

3) 5G ready chipset (Snapdragon 6/7 series or MediaTek Dimensity series), no MTK Helio, no SD680

4) S$300 to S$500
5) Dual SIM (usually a given for Android)
6) NFC is nice to have
7) Local set with warranty

What?? Less than $99 for a newer release phone? U gotta be kidding me.......

From TS's original post, looking like it's a market segment, i would assume US market since everything super dirt cheap

They even have $60 (Evolve III) & $80 dollar (Asus BR1100CKA) new laptop from microcenter

Haha ya... always see BestBuy or Walmart selling dirt cheap laptops... but for smartphones, I think the Americans dun have it so gd like us or some other countries cos alot of the affordable smartphone manufacturers are barred from selling their phones in US (I think cos most of em are China brands)...

Even when they had choice, their brain is even more hardwired than us and the only "choice" is that blue bubble life.

Yes there is of course such demand for cheap smart phone but the problem is that no smart phone vendors want to bring such low end phones into Singapore market.

BTW, the saga you mentioned was a sales promotion from Huawei Singapore. The phone had a usual list price of S$198 (more than US$99).

Actually just recently one of the big 3 had a promo also for a $57 Redmi 10 5G (usual price maybe ard $225 or so)... it seems like now and then there will be a super cheap phone promo happening haha...

That is a very good offer. Unfortunately it is only for targeted Singtel customers. Maybe I am not spending enough on the SIngtel mobile side to be considered for this offer.

Ya.. I saw an edmwer who posted in the threads that he managed to get the $57 deal just before the promo ended... after which they changed the promo to just giving $57 discount off the retail price of the phone iirc...
