Yeah so what you wanna do? Give them 5.8 billion euros?

i won't answer to silly rhetoric part about me giving them 5.8 billion

as an investor who's already invested, i would want the situation to improve sustainably i.e. the banks to set up a bad bank to deal with the bloated assets, big depositors to pay a levy on their deposits of questionably-gotten money

as a human being, i would want the ordinary cypriots (most of whom have less than 100,000 euros in the banks) and had no part to play in today's mess to not be unfairly treated to pay for the mistakes of the greedy

so who you want to be? an investor or a human being?

The citizens are not at fault, it's the government that failed the citizens, but the ultimate question is end of the day, where is that 5.8 billion euros gonna come from?

Russians don't want to extend their loans, the trioka don't want to negotiate on the bailout terms. The best solution is to take money from depositors, unless of course got people who are rich and as 'humanely' as you think will give them 5.8 billion euros to tie them over.

You are currently vested, that's why you are biased against my comment about letting Cyprus go bankrupt

I am currently vested too, but not my entire cash is vested now, so when i say I pray that Cyprus goes bankrupt is also for my own interest.

So chill bro, you can ignore my comment if you don't feel good, forums are just for talking crap or some sense, it's up to you if determine which is crap and which are not :)

U know, it is not mutual exclusive, being an investor and a human being.

While it is not the direct fault of the citizens, I won't actively wish for their misery so that I can profit it. But it does not preclude being in the right position to pickup opportunities if the worst does happen.

Well, there is always 2 sides of the coin, kicking the can down the slope further without solving the root problem will only means the consequences and aftermath will be double the painful compare to if its let go now.

What matter most now is for us to be ready for it when the inevitable really happens, by then I will be curious what more tool will the federal reserves has or else it will be a long lengthen route to recovery.

QE can only slower the rot but will never defy the nature and mechanism of the market if they don't solve the problem

Just my 5c opinion

If no one makes mistakes, we will never be able to have a chance at profiting

But at the same time, if you are thinking about how humanely you should be and not profit from other's misery, it contradicts your opportunity

Therefore, being an investor and being a 'humanely' human being is a mutually exclusive event

I think we have to agree to disagree. Mistakes or black swan events are just one of the investing opportunities available. All investors should be ready to exploit these events but it can't be the only tool in the arsenal.

I bought Sembmar last year when the rig toppled and sold a few months later for a tidy profit. But that was just a tactical play using money I set aside for this type of events. But I am long for most of my portfolio because I bought when the valuations were reasonable and the business or sector would do well. Nothing to do with mistakes.

Of course, if you think market inefficiencies is a mistake in itself...

Enough ink have been spilt on this, but political expediency trumps making hard choices.

That bascani given mandate to form parliament by Tuesday and he is expected to say he can't

The president said there appeared to be "significant" obstacles to forming a grand coalition.

Mr Bersani, who is widely seen to have botched the election and to have squandered a comfortable lead in the polls, conceded that he faced "a difficult situation" but said he would meet with the other parties over the weekend.

If he is unable to stitch together a government, a new technocrat administration may have to be formed, similar to the one led by Mario Monti after Mr Berlusconi's last administration collapsed in Nov 2011. Either way, analysts say Italy may have to return to the polls later this year.
