Any1 bought this and tried yet? What i gather from the net and several websites, this player seems to be the next gen of mini pc.

Any1 can confirm that before i get one locally? Apparently droidmate works extremely well with it too. AND ITs NOT MADE IN CHINA... LOL.. finally..

Anyone ordered/gotten the MINIX Neo X5? It's a media box running Android and has S/PDIF optical out, ethernet, etc.

I want to know if it
- can play true 1080p 30fps video (not downscaled to 720p)
- can stream 1080p video fast enough from a NAS via Samba filesharing
- can bitstream DTS & Dolby 5.1 audio through the optical out
- works well with Droidmote or with a wireless keyboard+mouse

It should be similar in features to the Neo G4, except that it has optical out and ethernet port. So if anyone has the G4 please share your experience. Thanks!

just received G4 via post from a Hong Kong retailer. Tested it and here's my review :

- i guessing $4 or more goes to the packaging? FULL details on the boxing itself. And first time i see a product got qr code and facebook support page ( or maybe that's just me haha). packaging is enough to confirm that this player is not your average china-made ones. Took the trouble to print those details and a presentable box.

- boot up is twice faster than a china android player (bought for fun, $70 only) i bought 2 months back

- wifi stronger too. WEP/WPA no problemo.

- used it to download some apps and games. smooth, no lag. tried playing some movies with my ext hdd. Movie size up to 1gb+ no problem. but failed when playing 20GB The avengers. downloaded different players that support mkv, can play, but super jerky. Maybe if play from SD card will be faster? not sure. dun have micro SD card. Appreciate if some1 can assist on this issue.

- more access to google store. Apparently i compared my 2 android players, g4 have more category pages and really could find my apps under SEARCH function.

- need another help here. dunno how to change from their interface to the standard android one. i prefer having my own background pic and theme. Their's is a very simple one. Good but not for me haha.

- 2 hours in, than i realise i forgot to close previous programs. click bottom left, and found out i was running with 20 apps !! 6 video apps on the 20gb avengers, 5 games, google store, not sure settings counts as one or not, browser, explorer, email, facebook, spiderman 3d wallpaper, forgot what else.

- lastly, heard that droidmate and airplaydmr can work with g4, haven try yet cuz i only got iphone, no android phones. cannot test.

Hope got more reviews coming in. Would like to exchange experience on G4, provided i got time haha.

From my research, you should try VLC Beta, DicePlayer or MX Player - they all should have HW video decoding.

If you use/like XBMC, you can use that for convenient browsing (maybe can use the Official XBMC Remote app). I'm planning to use XBMC + one of the above players.

Do you have a NAS or network drive to stream from? It would be nice to test streaming an MKV from that...

Both MINIX NEO G4 and X5 are made in China right? How come OP says "... AND ITs NOT MADE IN CHINA"? :)

MK802 III vs MINIX NEO G4 ... don't know which to get. Ahh! Almost same? :s11:

Nono.. You see carefully. Behind writes "Assembled in China" , not "made in china". Big diff. Anyways, both 802 and g4 almost same spec I think. But the support and compatibility with other devices outweighs what 802 can do. China vs USA/HK.. Which one better.. :)

Hi Aroura, thanks for the response.

I was a little bit confused because if I clicked the link given by buggerbuggerbrinjal in his 17-11-2012 message (=> Anyone ordered or gotten the MINIX NEO X5....),

MINIX NEO X5 - 6th picture
MINIX NEO G4 - 9th picture (I clicked link for G4 on the right)

Both pictures show the back cover and in the right bottom corner, it is written "Made In China".

I have not physically seen the products myself. Perhaps, it is by different distributors ... ?

Cheers! :)

There is one difference - both the MK802 iii and the G4 has only 1 USB plus 1 OTG port (unlike the 802 II which has 2 USB plus 1 OTG) but the G4 has an infrared remote so may not need to use up a port for a wireless mouse.

In either case, because the OTG is used as power input, that means you will def need a USB hub to be able to connect both an Ethernet dongle (if wifi is not satisfactory) and a USB hdd. That's why I am more interested in the X5 (I already hv the 802 II) which has 3 USB ports

Why not wait for uhost2 that has two full USB ports and one otg port?

Still not enough - need 1 port for power, 1 for wireless mouse, 1 for Ethernet dongle (I prefer wired connection for stability) and 1 spare for when I want to connect an external hdd. My current MK802 II already has 2 micro-USB plus 1 full USB

I really doubt it. From what I see at sim lim, the shops here are several models behind in their MIC tablets, phones and android boxes

Edit: you r right - Amconics (ugh!) is selling it but at $100 more than the online price (beware - unless u r a Amconics promoter?)

I have seen the G4 at Sim Lim before...

Yup, I just saw the sitex brochures. Wish it wasn't Amconics that's selling it bec they have not been very upfront about some of their previous products like the Asiabox streaming tv box (lots of complaints) and the chuwi tablet.

They are also selling at a ridiculous S$199 when you can buy online for only US$73!
