Nice. Are you planning to upgrade your current Moca 2.5?

I have LAN cables to all my rooms with 10G. Unlikely to upgrade MoCA even if v3 supports 10G

This MoCA 2.5 is good enough for the tenant if you rent a room out

Hi everyone, planning to purchase a pair of moca adapters for my home. Just have a few questions that I want to ask before I proceed with buying the adapters:

1. As I understand, I will need to disconnect my cable at the main splitter coming into my unit to prevent signal leakage etc. Will I need to install a termination cap for the cable? Or can I just leave it disconnected as is?

2. Where is the best place to buy a pair of adapters from? Any place that sells locally (and preferably has warranty) or will I have to buy off amazon?

3. Any other recommendations in general?

Thanks for the help in advance :)

1 is not strictly necessary, given that moca should be encrypted. However you may wish to either install a filter, or disconnect it from your house out to the main tap (at your db box there is an incoming coax cable)

2 amazon is my personal preference

3 depending on number of adapters required, if its just point to point I recommend to join them on directly at your db box instead of keeping the splitter in place

1. I will recommend to install the 75 Ohm termination caps.

2. I bought mine from Amazon

3. goCoaX for me.

Installed mine quite some time back due to the ethernet point in my MBR being at the opposite side of the TV console. Has been reliable and stable for me.

Pretty decent speed too, LAN point will be slightly faster though. But decent enough for normal use and as a wired backhaul to your APs.

Thanks for the replies guys. Also wanted to ask if there is any way of testing/knowing prior to buying the adapters if the coaxial ports are connected to each other? Heard some stories where some houses have the coax ports on different circuits or something, meaning the moca adapters can't detect each other...

check your db box, and check how the splitter is being configured and connected. You could always reconfigure it easily

You can use the SCV and/or TV points if you have both. Both internally use coax cables. The difference is the external connection. The SCV uses a needle-like connector (below) whereas the TV connector uses a thicker pin (above).

The concern is only whether the SCV/TV points can work. In my case the SCV points cannot work maybe internally the cable broken. I have never used the SCV points before. But it works for my TV points because my previous TVs work.

If you have used the SCV points or TV points before and they work then likely now they should work.

I think the newer BTO DB/TP box point may have a diagram sheet if I am not wrong. You can check it out.

Like what some shared, you may be able to reconfigure it easily.

Understand, thanks for the info. I live in an older condominium, and my diagram sheet doesn't really show the wiring in the house. That being said, good to know that I will be able to reconfigure it. Most likely, I'm guessing have to trial and error the connections if it doesn't work, I assume by taking out the coaxial port plug cover and looking behind to find the splitter for it. I've disconnected the coax coming into my house, now I'm just left with purchasing the MoCA adapters.

I've seen discussions on various brands in this forum, and so far the brand that has been recommended time and again is gocoax. Any other brands I should take note of? Just saw the prices on amazon, and gocoax is one of the more expensive ones and it doesn't look like they include any cables or anything haha

Hi everyone, an update on my MoCA situation. I purchased a pair of ScreenBeam Moca 2.5 adapters and tried them out, and they work pretty well! My download speed on Ookla shot up from 40Mbps to over 900Mbps. Surprisingly plug and play, I was worried for nothing I suppose.

However, I've run into an issue whereby my upload speed is much lower than my download speed. While my download is 900+, my upload speed is consistently hovering around 350, about a third of my download speed. Any possible reasons why this might be the case?

Hi, new to MOCA and trying to troubleshoot, so any advice would be welcome! I bought the 2-pack Asus MA-25 recently from Amazon (~$160) to connect the living room's router to the bedroom's node, but the MOCA LED didn't turn on. Previously Starhub was able to run EOC/EOCC from the living room to the bedroom. The MA-25's work and internet is transimtted when I do router-->MA-25--> coax cable --> MA-25 --> PC.

My HDB is a 2002 5-room with coax points (labelled 'TV') in living room, shelter, and 3 bedrooms. I think the main splitter is in a locked box in the electricity riser outside the main door.

Q1: In such older flats, is it normally the case that you have a main 3-way splitter 0-1000mhz connected to living room + air raid shelter + second 3-way splitter, which in turn is connected to the three bedrooms? If so, this could explain why MOCA in living room and MOCA in bedroom can't connect, because the second splitter is blocking incoming signals above 1000mhz. Is the solution then to replace the two splitters with 0-2500mhz ones? Is Starhub the entity to call to unlock the box?

Q2: Is it the case that success with EOC/EOCC doesn't mean success with MOCA because EOC/EOCC run under 1000mhz, so 0-1000 splitters aren't a problem?

My SCV points don't work over MoCA either. FI, I didn't subscribe to SCV. However, I used my existing TV points (coaxial too) instead. No need to bother of any splitter inside or outside the house. However, you need to custom-made a TV-to-coaxial cable

Thanks for your reply. Actually, I don't have separate SCV points. The rooms all have the FM and TV twin points, but they are made for the small-pin coax cables. I've been using the TV points for cable TV for several years, and switched to EOC/EOCC when Starhub decided to cut the cable TV service.

In that case you can try removing the splitters inside your house at the TV points. Connect your MoCA unit direct to the coaxial cable. As for the outside at the riser if the box is not locked but screwed on then remove the cover and remove the splitter connecting the cables coming into your unit. Buy a female-to-female coaxial connector and connect up the 2 coaxial cables. Then test

I have posted such a female-to-female coaxial connector photo a few pages back.

One question

Are you using ASUS router? If yes, changed your ASUS router's IP address to be different from the ASUS MoCA adapter

I believe both are using the same IP address

I changed the ASUS router address to 192.168.100.1 but this didn't help.

If the TV+FM ports are all 0-1000mhz splitters themselves, then I might really be out of luck. One of them is hard to access for unscrewing. On top of that, the outside box is also locked. But supposing I do get the box unlocked to link up living room and bedroom coax, and I do remove the 0-1000mhz splitters from all the TV+FM ports, are there any other wrinkles to worry about?

Just remove all splitters (inside and outside), drect connect and test it. If it works then ok. If not, then it looks like my SCV points................cannot work
