moi RO told me yesterday that he wants to extend my probation for 3 months due to "alignment" issues. I'm given the choice to either proceed with that or serve my notice. currently working at a statboard as an external payroll.

moi just feel that the JD was not well defined, as it was a "new" role by them, and in the first few weeks/months, nobody in the team had a clear understanding of what i am suppose to do, which ended up taking on stuff that is related to my title, then end up like that lo. but i dont want to point finger say who wrong or who right, cos i know i maybe should've done better do meet boss expectation/ideas of the role.

spend the whole night thinking, how to proceed with this. 70% of me says should just serve the 2 weeks and take a break/or ask my parent coy if theres any possible chance to transfer to different agency/role. i know market now tough, but if i take the 3 months extension, i also know i wont make it, given my boss lofty ideas of the role. other than that, i think i performed my assigned tasks properly

spoke with my boss again, first thing i said was, i want to work things out, ask him what concrete things he want me to achieve.

he say no concrete things, then keep harp on that 1 incident where i didn't stand up for the team and just blindly follow authority (i was just following proper process).

after that say many nice things, expect big things from moi, got chance promote in the future, etc. make moi giddy.

In my mind, after he couldn't gave me anything concrete, i just turn off my brain and just hmm hmm ok ok him already, cos end of the day, he nvr confirm moi.

Boss macham like manipulative gf.

shall dust off my resume and find new jod bah.

Not ur fault since they did not give u clear defined job scope, most likely they took u in to clear poo for as and when or who needs.??

And if u clear ur probation, they need to increase ur pay and give u permanent staff benefits and bonus, if keep hiring "probations", save alot.

More so if u did not commit any mistake....

Your jd n job title not really well define n is a new position?

I know this is the logical choice, but become i go work with half baked attitude, dont like that feeling.

If want do things, will do properly. Moi is just honest hardworking chap.

Late 20s your role is saikang and to make your boss/supv look good (any job, does not matter) .
But judging from your post, i think you did not fit well with the team la.
I'd suggest finding a new job and try again.

Set your feelings aside, you will be very disadvantaged if you go job hunting while not having an existing one.

Just email your boss for any job scope clarification and about ANY WORK ASSIGNED by your colleagues.
Dun do any more guessing.
MAKE sure that you are ALIGNED with your boss.
THIS IS what your boss wanted.

If it is alignment issues, maybe can meet with your RO to provide frank/honest specific examples of what you did that doesn't agree with "alignment". Once are on same page as management regarding the type of attitude/ performance that is needed, take another 3 months to find out whether you can satisfy their requirement - MEAN TIME FIND ANOTHER JOB...

Take it as a challenge to meet your RO's expectations... no loss to you... you will continue to get paid a salary while you "try".

At the end of the day, if your RO thinks your are not a good fit (personality/character etc), your RO will dismiss you even if your job performance is satisfactory...

Exactly same situation as me last year.

My advice is to take the 3 months extended probation and start looking for a new job at the same time. Meanwhile, continue to aim for confirmation in your current job. It's not easy so jiayou!

being blunt here. u are not suitable for the role. RO is jus being kind to gib u another chance. only stat board can do such things. already know someone cmi but want to be 'nice' don want to hurt feelings then gib chance see how. private where got such luxury. cmi means out u go liao.

simple question to ask: more time and more effort will things improve? if not, then LLST and move on. if can, then apply more time and more effort nia. people already v nice liao to gib more chance.

usually extend probation means they dont want you, just serve notice bah
last time during covid that time, i work in this coy, say 3 months contract then after that if performance good will confirm, then after 3 months liao they say extend 6 months. within the 6 months i secretly find new job, then go for interview when wfh that time. after that they get back to me but salary wise drop about to 10-15%, i accepted it cause is a CS job, after that i tell them say i want to resign serve 1 week notice then after that take 1 day break, friend jio me go out for lunch and he treat me eat during the 1 day break to celebrate my new job, after that from that day onwards work until now lor.

Extend and look for a new job, as suggested by many....

Attitude is determine by yourself, doesn't mean you are doing a 3 months extension and actively on job-hunting mode, you need to provide half-baked attitude. You can still do the best of your ability with whatever is assigned to you, while you look for a job, attend interviews and stuff.

Of course, you can just yolo and serve the 2 weeks notice, while hunt for a new job. But then you need to assess, how financial sustainable you are to tank through the period (which is an unknown).
