u can just top up HKD 100 .. they will accept your 1000 and give you the change you need and u dont need to worry about using the big note. if u going with somebody, then each one break the note separately.. anyway, octupus can be used in a lot of places in HK, better than our lousy ezlink

Hi, just simply go to any Bank in Hong Kong and tell the staff that you want to change the HK$1K notes into smaller denominations ($500 or $100), they will change for you. No question asked, I have done that quite a few times.

dun think so ...
since last year oct, the rate was about 5.55 then recently dropped to 5.40
now is about 5.4+ .. guess the rate would remain at this rate for quite some time

HKD is pegged to USD. Best time to change is when SGD strengthens against USD. Now about 5.5.

now the rate seems to get slightly better each day
early in jan, the rate was about 5.36 to 5.40
luckily never go change...
0.10 difference is about 2sgd difference.

Because SGD is strengthening against USD now. Not sure for how long this will maintain as MAS may tinker our dollar again to prevent things from getting too expensive.

MAS did that last year to SGD and that's one of the reasons why HKD is more expensive last year.

Unlikely. HKD is pegged to USD to prevent much fluctuations to her currency.

But USD's performance will hurt HKD a lot.
