Going to hk on 2nd dec. can anyone tell me if 1000hkd notes are still avoided by the shops? any idea?

Generally accepted, as long as your purchase is of higher value (i.e. several hundred).

Yup, accepted if use in shopping malls or CityGate outlet, no issue.

Went to citygate adidas, they do not accept 1000 hkd note ...
they have a sign on their cashier area to inform you that ...

HK exchange rates suck, lol. If you have friends or relatives in HK, get them to exchange small notes for you. You give them your big notes to bank in to their account, they withdraw the smaller notes from ATM for you.

If changing at local money changer, ask them for HKD500 or smaller notes.

In the worst case scenario, you can try breaking the 1K notes at the HK airport by buying SIM and MTR cards.

I compared rates at ChungKing Mansion, tried those exchangers at the end.

Although rates may not be that favourable like those in Singapore.

Always insist 100 or smaller denomination.

Recently, HKD20, 50 and 100 counterfits are circulating.

Almost all money changers tell you they don't have 500 or smaller notes. Then how?

The money changer at Great World City has small denominations. Changed some there last week, a mix of 10's, 20's, 50's and 100's.

Alternatively, you could take the Airport Express train and pay for your ticket with a big note.
