reminds me of my army days. lol. That means no spending for entertainment - no movies, no buying of any stuff etc. More reasonable is $500 per month. Thats roughly how much i spend now. Can spend more on food and personal entertaiment and hobbies maybe. Even simple hobbies or sports like running requires u to buy shoes etc at least.
$500 per month is spend or save?

analyse your income, expenses, assets and liabilities. split asset and liabilities into current and non-current - reduce liabilities first then look at the surplus you have from your income.
Set aside a comfortable amount from these surplus and deposit into a bank savings account (with no atm card). This savings account will not be use for day to day transactions, and acts solely as savings.

Once u hit the emergency savings amount, start to do investing.

A common challenge is when income goes up, spending goes up, but not savings

In December 2006 it was reported that Buffett does not carry a cell phone, does not have a computer at his desk, and drives his own automobile,[75] a Cadillac DTS.[76] Buffett wears tailor-made suits from the Chinese label Trands; earlier he wore Ermenegildo Zegna.[77]

Why are you spending $300 on insurance? Whole life, ILP, and/or endowment policies?

I'm trying to save more too. I spent the most during lunch even though I eat at coffeeshop. A typical lunch at coffeeshop would be:

Rice + dishes or chicken rice or fish soup - approx $3 to $4
Fruit - 2 slices at $1.20 in total
Hot drink - 90 cents now
Snacks like bun, egg tart etc. - $2

As my family does not cook, I spend about $20 in total per day. Including weekends where I eat better (like tze char, no restaurants for me), I still spend about minimum $500 on food!

Therefore, my monthly expenditure goes like this:

Food - $500
Transport - $100 approx
Insurance - $200 (ILP and health plans)
Household (mom keeps this) - $100
Mom - $100
Dad - $100
HP - $60
Broadband - $33 approx
Miscellenous - $50

Food
Break $1 (eat bread with butter)
Lunch $3 (no drink allowed)
Dinner $3 (no drink allowed)
Total $7 per day.
Total $210 per month (30 X7=210)

Internet ( M1 mobile broadband= $16 per month)

HP ( $30 per month )

Total so far (210+16+30=256)

Transport(120per month + 256 = 376)

Therefore... possible... but... whether u are comfortable.. if u are not use to this kind of spending. Especially $3 per meal... for 30 days...or more...

Well, I think it is quite reasonable. Total for lunch is around $8. Why do you eat bun and egg tart? Probably you are still hungry and your mind is still craving for food or sugar. Sugar make you fat and get you diabetes. Hope this help you save $2.

Next, where exactly did your $12 go? I cook in the morning. Gardenia burger bun slice into half, along with slow frying egg (mcdonald kind), 2 slice of fresh ham and organic romaine lettuce. Breakfast cost me less than $1.50.

What exactly did you eat at ZiChar? Can't you cook at home? Fresher, healthier and cleaner ingredients. The reason i prefer home cook food, is because it is cleaner.
