$5 or so at NTUC. Enough to last 2 weeks. 2 cups oats and 1 cup water (yes that's the recipe). Add 1 or 2 fried eggs to complement it. It takes forever to digest. You eat this for breakfast and you can last till dinner.

Do this for 1 month and you'll probably go nuts. But I save a lot.

Edit : Crap I just realized I mixed the recipe up completely. Should be 1 cup oats and 2 cups water.

I eat oats mon-wed-fri and bring an egg+cheese sandwich on tue-thu (otherwise, like you said... can go nuts).

Oats are healthy, convenient & cheap. I just fill my coffee mug 40% with oats, add a heaping spoon of brown sugar, and fill to 80% with hot water from the dispenser. 10 minutes later it’s cooked perfectly (I don’t use quick or fast oats). Without the brown sugar I couldn’t do it.

I use Sanitarium brand whole grain rolled oats from Australia (sold just about everywhere, less than $5 when on sale).

I use Pagoda brand brown sugar from Mauritius ($2 per 500g at Sheng Siong).

Might be penny wise pound foolish to take so much added sugar which has been known to be bad for health.

i practice intermittent fasting. Basically i only eat from 12-8pm. I don't take coffee too so that helps. Skipping breakfast helps you save money and allows me to stay in shape and to eat pretty much what i want.

This method only works for people who are extremely well disciplined.

I grew up next door to a pig farm. The way they fatten up the pigs is to make them go hungry and then feed them like crazy. After they go “hog wild” overeating due to the hunger, they plump right up!

I definitely have less self control over how much I eat when I’m starving. I would end up like those pigs!

Fiber wise, but sugar foolish! You got me there. I do not eat oats to save money, it just happens to be economical. The sugar is bad, no question - but at least Pagoda unrefined brown sugar is far healthier than the horrible refined varieties like SIS brand.

Whether it is eating out at hawker centres or cook at home to save some bucks please look at the macro perspective. Work on ways to get multiple streams of income so you can attain financial freedom.

If you are in Europe for vacation don't tell me you are going to drink instant coffee because €10 is too expensive for a cup of coffee in cafe? Learn to enjoy the finer things in life once in a while to live a more spiritualistic lifestyle. More fulfilling than buying luxury or material goods.

My laptop is almost 11 years old and going on strong. Every 3-4 years I change my mobile phone only when it becomes obsolete to run the latest apps. Most people just spend foolish amount of money on unnecessary junk. The money saved can be better utilised by upgrading your home furnishings, charity or for travel. You can still spend but on more meaningful things. :D

Well, I don't really recommend people to skip breakfast to save money as it is the most important meal to kick start your day. The Oatmeal porridge with an egg in the picture above is good enough and does not cost much.

No matter how rich you are or how much money you have, you can not buy a good health later in your life.
