For me, I'd rather target to cut down on big-ticket spending than cut a little here and there. I don't mind paying a little more for the comfort of using aircon or buying a cup of good coffee everyday, but would not spend on owning a car or taking taxis. Cutting down on holidays or going for short trips rather than faraway places help a lot too.

I'd like to think more philosophically about saving money. It's more about a change in attitude. To find ways to enjoy life but doesn't need to spend money e.g. visit public parks and gardens. Watch videos borrowed from national library etc.

It's also about simplifying life. I've heard this phrase voluntary simplicity and think it's about keeping things simple in life. Collect less clutter, spend less but appreciate more and look out for value.

Be well and prosper.

My electricity, gas and water is 40 a month! Assume normally people in a 5 room spend 250 a month! I ought to have saved 2520! Not sure whether this is a big killers! This is probably enough for me to go banyan tree resort every year! Better still, buy a xbox, ps3, mini notebook, latest handphone!

how u get $40 per mth only? u live alone?

mine is $50, living alone, nothing is on standby mode except the fridge and i seldom come back home either, so not much usage

The trick is the fridge - Fisher&Praykel. Got to be highly energy efficient cos running 365 days a yr. I live with my wife! Cook mainly on weekends! Everyday will surely watch TV 3hrs. Weekend is almost 12 hours of TV with HDD recorder!

I also turn off the air-con main switch at the air-con ledge. Have dedicated power cord from HDD recorder to the mains. Basically, minimizing losses along power cord cable and the multi power plug extension.

It will stay till Jun 2009 as of now! Likely go back the normal rate and stay there for a while since all demands are dropping! Dont worry!

No! Watch TV for at least 3 hrs a day weekfays, at least 8 hrs on weekends, uses notebook for couple of hours (battery is charged in company though)! Uses my samsung i600 phone to surf net! Uses instant heater for shower! Basically all my appliances mains is switched off except fridge and HDD recorder! Cook mainly on weekends! I only have a energy-savings light (25W) fr evening to night! Everyday, also charges my robot vacuum cleaner for 6hrs! Wash clothes twice a week!

will the electricity charge to the main switch of TV, washing machine, desktop PC are on standby mode? if yes, how much will be charged? To earn extra income
Electricity will be consumed by yr appliance/device's power circuitry if u leave the mains on!

Appliance/device on standby mode consume more electricity cos it is waiting for yr command to fully turn on!

Since yr equipment Power On light is lighted, it is consuming electricity, similarly some extension cord have the light lighted up! This consumer electricity as well!

From my evaluation, the air-con main switch outside my air-con ledge when turned off, can save alot for me, probably 7 to 10kW per mth!

An example like a microwave oven, assume u use it 1 minute a day to heat up food! This energy is less than u never turn off the mains because the timer or LED is lighted up!
