i believe where we need to spend, credit cards can make the situation better with discounts. Of course, pls. make sure the item has been budgeted for.

In the newspaper, can google politics.sgforums, there is a discussion.

Rainwater Harvesting
Developers who would like to build rainwater collection systems and underground tanks to collect rainwater in their premises for their own non-potable uses, such as washing and toilet flushing, can do so. This applies to premises located within water catchments as well as those outside water catchments.

Used rainwater that is discharged into sewers will be subject to waterborne fees (WBF) as the used water, like all other used water generated from domestic and commercial/industrial sources, requires proper treatment and disposal. A simplified way of collecting WBF based on tank size and expected usage would be used in this instance.

Qualified Persons / Professional Engineers are to consult PUB (Catchment and Waterways Department) for any rainwater collection system that may be proposed under the development and to comply with NEA's guidelines on mosquito prevention in rainwater collection systems.
http://www.pub.gov.sg/conserve/productssolutions/pages/altsrcwater.aspx

I didn't know WBF is imposed on rainwater.

Contemplating thermal pot or induction type cooker (induction heat transfer is 70 to 80% as compared to using gas).

Bought a thermal pot for my in-laws cos they make soup everyday and family members keeps coming back at odd hours requiring re-heating! Google and find that some household can save 20 to 30 of gas per month! Will verify that claim few months later!

Anyone can verify these?
1) Using :s11: induction cooker to cook is cheaper than using gas????
2) the :s11: thermal pot really able to produce soup of the same quality and saving gas 20-30%?

I also want to switch to induction cooker and thermal pot but any cheap and good brand to recommend?

Thanks a lot!! :s22:

answer myself haha... have done my own research.

induction cooker is costly, you have to switch to induction base kettle and induction base pots/pans in order to conduct heat.

thermal pot can be considered. Cheap one at Carrefour selling at $69.9, large enough to cook soup for family of 4.

saving tips to add:
buy parallel import toiletries in people's park complex
buy essential items in bulk for discount
shop at NTUC Extra, charge to Citibank Platinum card for 5x points (equal 2% rebate for Isetan vouchers) and meanwhile enjoy LinkPoints and cash rebate with Union card.

For toiletries, CK or those ABC discount stores as well as the various toiletries shops at all the town centres are about the same lower prices for the same products compared to the likes of NTUC, Watson's etc.

Maybank Family and Friends cc has been having 5% cash rebate (auto-discounted from your monthly cc bill) with NTUC Xtra and selected Fairprice stores (I've been getting the rebates regularly from my regular NTUC at Killiney) 5% also at the Cold Storage stores that accept cc.

Sona induction cooker $59 (Best Denki special offer) with base pot/cover.
Pots and pans must be stainless steel ; if a magnet sticks, it is OK.
No Al or ceramic ones.
Hard to quantify savings (too many variables unless you have a specific Kill-A-Watt type monitor on that cooker; similar ones I have seen advertised here costs $150 or more - Yikes!).
Electricity bill more or less the same. Saving in cooking gas.
More for comfort factor. Less heat wasted so more pleasant cooking experience.
So far confined to cooking soups(my sis) and instant ramen(me)

TAXIS
avoid taking taxis unless really absolutely necessary.
try to take a cab in raffles place at 6pm, and the fare hits almost $10 even before the taxi move an inch.

Handphone
unless your job requires you to be a heavy user, use top up card.
where possible ppl call you in office on your HP, reject the
call and call them back using your office phone.
handphone no need to upgrade upgrade non stop.
its just a device to communicate. you don't upgrade your home telephone every month do you???

some people upgrade their HP every 1-3 months.
just test and ask them to withdraw 3-5 from their atm savings account and then you watch their reply and reaction.

TV/PC/Consumer Electronics
still using that old CRT TV? continue using it. nothing wrong. unless it spoil, then you can go and buy a new LCD tv. think long term. spend a bit more, buy a good one and squeeze the life out of it all the way.

If you're using a top-up card, then there's no need to upgrade mobile phones. But if you're on a post-paid plan, it's more advisable to upgrade your phone. or rather, do a sales out of it, u can get some money by doing the mobile phone upgrade.

eg. take the phone and sell it off. unless you foresee that you're not going to use the number in the next 2 years, then don't upgrade.

no point leaving yr mobile number contract-less when u can get something out of it.

Money making is better than money saving. Money saving is you are trying very hard to save $1 while money making is to grow $1 to $10. If you can do that, no need to save so hard. Any one known of any proven money making techniques?

Agreed. Saving is important. But it will reach a point, you cannot save much further. No point makes life too miserable by saving so hard to save that extra dollar / month. Money growing is as important. Chinese old saying 开源节流。After all the saving (节流), need to look for growing(开源).

There's always the attack (money making) and defense (money saving).

both will be necessary. you can make all the money in the world, but if the cost is catching up on you, there's really not much money being made.

money making will often require hard work with lots of toil and sweat, which many people don't wish to put in.

There is no easy money making.

If interested, pm me more. but bear in mind that it won't come easy, but rewards are there.
