Monitor Repair in Sim Lim?

I have LG LCD monitor (L1970HR) and have been flickering whenever I boot my computer. It will flicker between 20 to 30 minutes before it stablise. It will remain so until it went into standby mode. Once I wake it up again it will start to flicker again for about 10 to 20 minutes before it stablise again.

Is it cost effective to repair this monitor?

If i am not mistaken, u have ever asked this question somewhere in May & I have ever answered it before. Maybe my answer is not clear at that time.

My opinion is - It depends. If u replace the capacitors by YOURSELF & it cures the problem then it is worth it lor.. Other than that it all depends on your financial status + how old is the monitor, whether u want to upgrade, whether this is the 2nd/spare monitor,etc, etc.

Personally, i have not done this model with YOUR failure symptom, before but on other LG monitors that i have done, a few capacitors need to be replaced to get it working. So in your case, it is difficult to judge whether it is solely the capacitors are causing it or other parts of the monitor. & for that to be conclusive is to crack open the monitor to find out.

Is Power LED turned ON? IF no, then it is a tricky customer. Once i bought a faulty HP that cannot turn on & it turn out Logic/main board is the problem & it is virtually unrepairable. It is packed in the box, sitting quietly beside my computer table right now. .

Unless it is caused by faulty capacitors or a few cheap components on the power board, it is not worth it, in my opinion. Furthermore, if it old (more than 5 years). I saw in the market some1 selling the same model as yours with the same fault. If u ask me, I will only offer to buy it CHEAP for PARTS.

What is the problem with your monitor? Which model & how old is it?

Some common monitor models have typical failures like faulty capacitors, transistors, etc.. e.g Samsung 226BW.. Repairs charges will be based on case to case basis as some requires more components replacement & some i even advise that it will not be cost effective to repair.

A bottle of water accidentally tripped and spilled small amount of water on LCD screen. This water has worked itself into the panel and now I have this black circle at the bottom right hand corner and also streaks of black.

Is this permanent damage or is there a possibility of the water evaporating and emerging from the screen? I have opened it and attempted cleaning however water seems to be inside the screen sandwich.

Any solutions? Model = Samsung Syncmaster 226BW

I have my doubt whether this is repairable. But maybe you can prove me wrong..

If it was me, i would open up the whole monitor until the panel is fully exposed & TRY using a hairdryer & CAREFULLY heat up the BACK & BOTTOM metal part of the panel. BECAREFUL, not to heat up the 'black' screen area.

Or if u want, but not sure it will work, u can try do the following:
1) Take a large plastic bag that can seal (find those travellers plastic bag where u can suck the air out when u pack your clothing for holiday)
2) Wrap the panel using a towel & put in the plastig bag
3) Put a few or best a lot of Silica gel or those 'hippo' brands humidifier together into the plastic bag. If possible to extract/suck the air, as much as u can, out of the plastic bag will be better la..
4) Leave it for a few DAYS

BTW, after more than 24H does the defect change its shape?

those with faulty capacitors and don't know how to solder, i suggest you search at ebay and buy the entire power board to replace it... there are many listings for various lcd panel... i bought mine for less than sgd$40

good job!..

However, problem is sometimes not easy to find the same model (coz outdated) or scared those guys pull them out from working monitor (not new) & never test them before reselling on ebay or TB.. But, i would definitely get the entire power board if i have a lot of components failing in a single Power board.. ..

I own a Samsung 2493 HM monitor. After 3 years, its starting to flicker. Any good and reliable monitor repair shops in Sim Lim?

I can said that it is not cheap. Donkey years during CRT Era , i sent my CRT monitor to service and it cost me $150 . After few mth of usage , the problem re-surface again .

Since LED monitor is so cheap , u should just grab a new one
