Prepaid to Postpaid only certain telcos. You can try Circles Life, SIMBA, Changi Mobile, M1 Maxx etc. most MVNOs of M1 support it.
Once converted to postpaid, you are free to port to other telcos. But make sure you check the T&C, some requires 1 month commitment etc.
Otherwise, convert from Prepaid to Postpaid in your incumbent MNO (ST/SH/M1) which is Starhub, then port out once converted to Postpaid.
This has been possible all along, you have been misinformed.
Misinformed by RedOne's customer service.. didn't give me the full picture.. just said prepaid SIM cannot switch to postpaid SIM that's all. Because of that I lost my old mobile number and had to change my phone number for many accounts including DBS Bank, Sing-Pass and Philippines embassy account for my helper.

Was it recent? Might be able to get IMDA to assist.
Otherwise, treat it as lesson learnt and now you are informed and able to advise if others around you face such issue.

This is probably a matter of they cannot do it and assume/mislead others cannot do it as well.
That is also why sometimes it can be a good idea to get a second opinion.

They purposely mislead us so that we won't go and sign up with another service provider. This is the evil side of doing business ... especially when the regulator is sleeping on the job ...

Always good to check online first before any switching etc. I also got misinformed by Singtel before, luckily I got do my own research online & insist the cs to double check with her superior & finally she apologized for her mistake. We are fortunate to have internet now so make good use of it, don't just listen to 1 side of the story.

Agreed, nowadays need to research yourself and not blindly follow/listen.
From experience most CS just follow script according to their pay, uncommon to get an informed and knowledgeable CS.

This is the exact reason why you/we need to come hwz. Only started last yr, Prepaid can jump post paid across different network. Only 2 mth ago, singtel prepaid can jump to Eight post paid; for eg, $8/m, use shoppee coins can bring it down to $5+/m, whereas, singtel prepaid $199 extension is removed, need top $11 every 3mth or $3+/m just to retain number, might as well add $2 for lots of data and can roam in JB like a hero. Prepaid are a forgotten, foresaken plan.

For Singtel prepaid can buy $3 Megasaver IDD pack which will give 180 days validity, a cheap way to retain no. if you don't need data etc.

Anyone have issues porting your line out after being force converted to the new "Prepaid Star" plan?

Went to a few shops, all failed to port my line as prepaid.

One shop told me that the prepaid star plan, for some reason, starhub system only lets it port when they select "postpaid".

I also check with starhub, they insist that I'm on a prepaid plan, but advised also that if i want to port to other telco, i must tell the other telco to select my number as "postpaid" - which also means I cannot use prepaid plans anymore after I port.

Very unethical business practice.

friend ported from star plan to simba (not senior). had to select pre-paid.
he is much happier now

IMDA will always reply with - "we have communicated with the ISP/telco, please liaise with them to resolve this."
Please don't expect anything more unless it's simple task that is actionable. :s13:

I sent an email to IMDA and told them about the situation.

To their credit, Starhub did actually call back after 5 days and acknowledge their error in converting these lines to "postpaid".

They have advised that they need approx 3 months to solve the problem, but meanwhile, they will credit money into the line for free until it is resolved.

According to the person I spoke to, many customers have feedback the same thing and they are actively resolving it.

I urge more to complain.

So to speak, STAR plan is supposed to be "Postpaid" but due to error on SH's end, they are classed as "Prepaid" instead which is what is causing the issue for those that are porting out?
DId I get you correctly?

It is the other way around.

Starhub forced convert all Prepaid Users into the Star Prepaid Plan.

People who are on the Star Prepaid Plan, the numbers are tagged as postpaid in Starhub's system, so if you want to port your number to another telco as prepaid, it won't go through on the other telcos system.

Ah sorry, foggy brain.
According to your correspondence with IMDA, Starhub currently acknowledges this issue and requires 3 months to resolve this issue, yes?
If it's the case, that's great since Starhub is acknowledging and working on resolution.

Got forced converted to Star Plan last night.
Was pissed that they did not even send a SMS about it and line went blank.
Need to restart the phone to get back online
Preparing to walk to another telco to show my disapproval
Got a SMS today about their "generous discount". Hmm.

They had plenty of time to execute this change, so I am doubtful that this is a mistake.
And 3 months to fix ? That's a long time, in the meantime those who want to port to another prepaid operator would not be able to do so, and have to continue paying for the star plan, unless they offer some waiver or rebate.

I did write in my post that they did in fact offer to credit my account with free credit...until the issue is resolved. I am happy with that solution. They can take as long as they want for all I care now haha.

But of course, you need to complain.
