zen3 has 24 4.0 lanes in total,16x + 4x + 4x. the last 4x is shared between all other i/o like lan, wifi, sata, hence i believe it wont give exclusive 4x lanes to your 2nd nvme...but think also wont lose much in perf unless you hammer that last 4x lanes with load...

In theory you wouldn't be able to hit your max 4.0 ssd speed if it goes beyond 3.0 lane spec. At most the speed gets capped to 3.0 lane spec.

If you are normal usage or office application it should be ok, if for gaming it's recommend to use the heatsink.
For the n7 b550 if i get a ssd with own heatsink, then i probably have to ditch the motherboard cover lol. My dad is probably going to use this pc for just browsing and watching movies.
Ya browsing and watching movie should be no concern and if you get the ssd with own heatsink then ya need to remove the original cover.
Another main reason I select this board because it is the silent version without the south bridge heatsink fan, basically it is the new improve X570s new board just release last year Sep21
Yes i did open it up, but no it has no cooling pads. Its a magnetic cover for the board. If i change his ssd then i GG liao. Cos i would have 3 x pcie 4.0 1tb m.2 ssd

In my opinion, it should not be a problem. The reason is because, while PCI-E 4.0 SSDs can get very hot, (1) it will throttle itself if it gets too hot, and, (2) depending on your usage, most people won’t stress the storage too much for a sustained amount of time. In games for example, I don’t think the SSD is running anywhere close to its max theoretically speed. Unless you are moving massive files to and fro the SSD, then you may observe slow downs due to throttling.
I think only Aorus has that. But my build don’t have any aorus parts lol
