my last laptop MB fried want to salvage also can not :S

What is MB fried? Thinking of buying but now a bit afraid la. DIY repair is quite troublesome as must buy parts and still must move hands to open up and fix it.

I see. Would you be able to introduce someone to us with minimum A+ cert? There is no Laptop repair certification in Singapore by the way. All other related certification are not entirely the same to our repairs, which covers all brands of laptops and smartphones.

We seriously have difficulties hiring qualified staff. Around 10% of our interviewees could be hired. Out of those hired, 30% could not even pass their 3 months probation standard set. Raising the standards anymore will mean either we increase the repair cost dramatically or have our service shut down.

Possible to send me the PM again so that we can review again? It is no longer in our PM box already.

There is only around 1000 PM space in our accounts, usually with our PM volume, PM can at most store for 5 weeks. But due to the Comex show, we only have PMs dated from 5th Sep onwards now. We delete our PM first in first out.

It is not easy to get an A+ person without increasing overhead cost too much such that consumers will have to bear the cost. Which company would not want to hire one if there is a choice?

We also need to depend on part timers / interns during busy periods. We are working on our training and SOPs to ensure consistent services throughout our PC Dreams outlet now.

depends on your usage. a ultrabook? Normal laptop? Gaming? or Desktop replacement?
Each category has its own pros and cons.

as far as i know MSI lappies not bad. their gaming laptops are quite high performance. If someone wants a gaming laptop, I will usually recommend MSI or Toshiba or Alienware

I still remember MSI wind is the only one which I was able to successfully install Mac OS and able to use 90% of its functions...

but too bad the company didn't pump alot of money to market this brand in Singapore like Acer and Asus...

I am new with MSI and thinking of buying one but after reading about the LCD problem in this thread, I am a bit worry and feel like a bit drawbacks. Do not want to end up have to 'move hand' to DIY repair. Getting lazy.

Just to share a few things:

LCD panels are manufacture by LG philips, Samsung and other ODM brands. They are not manufactured by the brand itself. Thus, the failure rate has nothing to do with MSI. There are different grades of LCD.

MSI gaming laptops chooses on the Grade A LCDs in the panels.
Other brands that uses Grade A LCDs,

Sony SZ, SR series
Asus ROG, zenbook
Samsung series 9 (Ativbook 9)
Dell Latitude series
HP elitebook series.....

The failure rate of the LCDs is related to the Grade, not the brand.



Many people are asking about the GE40 heat issues, so we did a heat test.
It is hotter on the left side on the Chasis, averaging around 42 degrees. On the right chasis, it is around 33 degree.
Max temperate is 57 degree at the exhaust area.
Average temperate is around 39.3 degree on the C Chasis (keyboard area + touchpad + palmrest).
Note that Razer 14 average temperate is higher in our test with max temp @ 64 degree.

GE40's heat is slightly higher than normal laptops, but is in very acceptable range.

Note that the above are our own tests, just use it as a guideline....

ASUS is good and reliable. Using ASUS and Lenovo now.

One of my older laptop, LG brand. not bad actually. just that so happen hav eissue with motherboard. so need to replac ethe whole thing. can not just repair.
DIY is not for everyone. thats why aftersales service is important. I believe PCdreams will be able to give you good aftersales for MSI.
I do DIY because kind of treat it as hobby.

build quality wise i would say the same. But (usually) MSI more value for money. just compare. usually same price can get better spec.
