whats the hype with atom processor? why is everyone liking it so much?

Lol you don't have a choice, it's the latest processor for UMPCs. It's supposed to have a lower power consumption as well, which means longer battery life.

for $830 that is one solid notebook.

and the 10' screen is joy.

I think 10inch is the highest inch they can go for umpc.

If they go further than 10inch............it reach 11 to 12inch like normal laptop

then what is the point of carry this

hope this wind will be a good one

And what makes you say that the Asus brand is trustworthy? FYI MSI makes lots of mainboards for desktops, and they're pretty good.

ASUS is really reliable in terms of lappy. I have one at home and it's really good. No complain except for the weight. The lappy is super quiet as compared to other brand like Acer and Fujitsu. But too bad. MSI config is much better except fot he 200gm extra weight.

I suppose he meant to say Asus has a better track record in the notebook segment....
Anyway, this is not the 1st laptop that MSI is releasing, so cannot considered debut already...

Anyway, to pacify some non-believers... take a look at this...

Rated at 2.5hrs? So the 5+ hours is with 6 cell battery? However I think this one still slightly more worth it than Eeepc 900. You get much more storage space(don't say you don't care about this), almost the same run time(assuming eeepc using 5800 battery) with a bigger screen at only $30 more. The only things e900 has over this is the weight and size and they are not by much. Even the SSD is proven to be the same speed as a conventional 2.5" hdd.

I think people should not get hung up about the 2.5hrs rating. I mean, the e701 and and e900 also only get around 2hrs and they still sell like hotcakes. If it really can hit 2.5hrs we should be quite happy liao. Of course this Wind can still be a flop, which I hope will not happen, though I might back out of the preorder and just get a lenovo cheap lappy if I decided a $999 full lappy is more worth it.:s13:

Just to clear stuff up. The asus eee 900mhz celeron may well be faster then the atom 1.6ghz.

SuperPi benchmark. http://laptoping.com/intel-atom-benchmark.html

But the upside is atom has a TDP between 0.6W to 2.5W which means lower power usage. But dont mistake yourself and think its faster.

I think those bench mark doesn't say much. The processors are not tested in real applications use, which might differ significantly from the bench mark.

Anyway even if atom(there are two different atom processors BTW) is slower it's not very much so, the lower power consumption makes up for it, and that's what mobile computing like the eeepc and wind pc are about.

Ya but incase people think 1.6ghz only means faster.

The problem is, until real life benches come out for the 2 using same apps, you will never know how it performs....

There was a benchmark i saw which compared the atom @ 1.6Ghz losing out to a celly @ 1.6GHz... but how would it fare against the 900MHz celly?

Lets just hope the benchmarks come out soon... then can decide whether to go on and buy it
