Happened to me last week.
UOB sent me SMS saying my card is suspended.
I called UOB, they told me there was a transaction from a US telco for USD50cents. They suspect something wrong so jitao suspend my card.

I think those scammers are trying their luck. AFAIK, transactions less than a dollar won't trigger an SMS notification, so they are using this method to see which card number is valid. Next time they will whack a bigger amount.

Be careful everyone.

They will probably switch to push notifications from their app, which is gonna be cheaper for them.
Ya... Lots of those loans promo notifications which we cannot opt out. Probably will make people to start ignoring them too.

Previously had too much of those loans emails from Citibank but no matter how you "click to unsubscribe" they still come in and from different senders. My friend asked me to write in to their DPO and worst case complain to PDPC. Never receive such emails after that.

Problem with this push notification is that some banks use it to also promote their banking products. One such bank is posb. Always keep receiving alert about new products here and there (especially loans) even though opted not to receive any marketing communications

Sorry I have to disagree.

Citibank is one of the worst credit card to have.
My past experience with them shown me their customer service operators does not have to authority to help consumers resolve issues but they are there to explain why the problem happened and tolerate your scolding.

The best customer service is still American Express. Their no nonsense approach to fraudulent transactions has been there since day 1. There is no question asked when you raise concerns about a fraudulent charge and they will reverse the charge and investigate later.

And my Amex card is the only card that waive annual fees even though I had not use it for the entire year.

What you mentioned is what all banks should be doing and had not been doing until the OCBC phishing scam occurred. No credits should be given

Amex so good ah? I find many merchants don’t accept especially overseas.

IMHO.
I think should be more or less the same for all banks. It is a marketing platform for them.
Conventional banking I think don't make a lot of money - need to push products.

Yes they want to switch from SMS to push notification.
But once the scammer get hold of the app, thats it!
All notifications will be diverted to the scammer’s phone.
The user wont received anything…

Best to bring only amex when dining with client/friend and offer to pay but act surprised when they dont accept - 'oh shucks they dont take amex, do you mind taking care of the bill first" :ROFLMAO:

Let's see which bank implement it first.
I find that at times with Citibank's SMS for transaction, there is a bit of delay.
Maybe not as instantaneous that I would like ! 🤣
Any similar experience ? Also with other banks ?

They do, but not all placed accept AMEX.

AMEX is good, top notch customer service. The only bad thing is acceptance.
Go China, no chance to use this card at all. Even some hotels also don't take this.

I gotten similar from UOB, they sms me to call the bank. So I did. I confirmed those transactions they mentioned and blocked are all not performed by me. They proceeded to cancel my card and reissue. I did not even see those "fraudulent transactions" in my account record at all as they blocked them out.

Thank you UOB.
