He say you have to use your parents assets such as insurance claims, sell the hdb etc to pay off the debts.

If parents assets are less than the hospital bills, you don't need to pay them the remaining amount and they also cannot sue you for it

If that's the case, we should seriously look at how hospital bills are spiralling out of control and how universal healthcare is actually disincentivising hospitals to price themselves competitively.

my dad pass on more than 10 years ago at SGH.

he had cancer n e bill also quite huge.

he had used up his cpf, n our little cpf as we were young then.

when he pass on, SGH keep calling us n send us letters.

we really cannot pay e bills... dont know how my sis settle it, in e end they never contact us anymore.

They wi only write off after Investigating ur financial status.....if they know u have the money and able to pay....hospital will ask for installment payme t after death

Cannot see like that. Many of us Low income only have a few k in savings. Especially elderly. Unless hospital want to make us all bankrupt, we want to pay also cannot pay 100k bill what.

Aside... for nursing homes i recommend don't go private ones if you can choose. When you can't pay they can really take you to court for it. Saw it for myself happen before.

nowadays even before you enter hospital, they will check your "financial capablities" and if they think you need will call the so called social workers to find you to provide you with assistance... or find a "cheaper" medication for you lor...

so this type of money 天涯海角 will also get back from you want... you cant run away wan... even if really broke, they will ask you pay later or by installation or apply special help scheme or pay at least certain amount or something... or deduct from some asserts or something... u cant run away wan...

Yes . I encountered it myself when I accompanied my mum when she was hospitalised. Next bed old folk kept saying no money then social worker came to talk to her and so on . Asking lots of questions.

Means you don't have the means to pay such a large bill. Inform hospital and see what can be done, whether can get some subsidy from government. Don't just ignore the bills and hope they go away.

Ya my cousins paid for my late auntie hospital bills which was about 200k+. She was under c ward but ICU for many months till very last breath.
3 sons paid till clear off debts. I don think u can Siam unless u r declared by government as low income

i think so.

my dad doing small business n after he know he last stage, he stopped his business n start e therapy.
for 1yr+, there were not much income as i was in NS, n my sis still n uni. my mum was doing odd jobs.

so when e bills came, we were also owing hdb loan, SC&CC, our study loans etc...

i think my sis show them all our bills, n they write off.
