I think the only question that needs to be asked and is still not answered is does MR have it own infra up and running yet? Or are they preselling everyone NC bandwidth on the hope of getting it up or not in the future.

Funny, you are from VQ, go and enjoy your VQ connection. WHy come into MR thread and disturb? If service is up and running and run into problems, then maybe can say a bit. but service oso haven up yet, and you are the only one making noise...

I feel you are giving VQ a bad name.... It sounds like you are saying since VQ is the best among all 5 ISPs, it gives you the rights to criticise other ISPs of their shortcomings.

im currently still on my old MR plan, Once i upgraded to the new Ultra, when will they start charging the OTC and such?

Mine is estimated on Q3 2014.

The new monthly subscription fee and OTC are charged upon installation.

Lots of question!

Hi, I was talking to a CSO yesterday with regard to the router and wireless problem and the answer he gives me was rather weird. According to him, for the cheapest router, the wired speed can only support up to 300mpbs, the second up to 867mpbs and the last up to 1300mpbs...
Is this true??

TBH, what he say and what I read is so different I'm getting very confused now. Not exactly a hardware guy, so any help would be appreciated.

For the modem, is it a rental? And how many ports does it have? I'm thinking of connecting directly from the modem to my pc instead now.

Also, how can I check if my pc can support the 1gpbs speed?
What is cat5 and cat6? Which one should I use?

And for the router, I'm choosing the second model and realize they have this 802.11ac, something my laptop wireless adapter doesn't support. what will be the max speed my laptop wireless can handle? My laptop have a 802.11n, i think..

Will myrepublic provide me a 802.11ac adapter or do I have to buy myself? And if so, which usb adapter would you recommend?

In fact, would it be better if I take the cheapest router instead?

What is the international speed cap?

On both Asus and Myrepublic website, they advertise the wireless speed as 300+300, 300+900 and 300+1300, and on asus website, they add them together and say the router and support the speed up to 600, 1167 and 1900. So does it mean for wireless, the highest speed I can obtain at the best condition is the added together value?

Like for example, the AC56U state "The 5GHz band works at up to 867Mbps, while the 2.4GHz frequency tops 300Mbps, serving an incredible combined bandwidth of 1167Mbps". Does this mean the best speed I can get is 1167mpbs?

How can i check if my online order is in order and being process? Cause when I try to click on the link send by myrepublic, instead of showing me my order is being process, it went back to the first page, as though i've never make any order yet. Is this normal?

Sorry if this seem to be rather long winded, rather new to this.

All our 1Gbps plans are NOT presold on NC bandwidth - it does not make sense to do such, their pricing for a 1Gbps tier is not possible at the price point we are selling 1Gbps at.

Im still thinking what to do with my RT-N66U.
can the $100 voucher be kept till i decide to upgrade my router?

or do MR have a Trade in offer for this?

No trade in offer, but you can sell the RT-N66U outside! It will all be charged only after installation of the new ONT.

Theoretical max speed for the wired for each router is 1Gbit as all have gigabit internet interfaces. Only difference is whether the hardware acceleration in each router can support this theoretical max speed. As far as the RT-N56U, RT-AC56U and RT-AC68U are concerned, in our testing they are able to hit close to the 1Gbit speed. I believe you were talking about wireless, where the RT-N56U is a N600 router (300Mbps + 300Mbps router) whereby theoretical max speed on wireless is only 300 (and way lower considering interference etc.) If you predominantly use wired, then no worries.

For the modem, it will have to be returned at the end of your service should you choose to terminate.

To check if your PC can support 1Gbit speed, look up the NIC on the web. If it says something like 'FastEthernet', then it does not support the 1Gbit speed (only 100!). Cat 5 (non-extended) supports only up to 100Mbps usually, so you'd be looking at Cat 5e or 6 that supports up to 1Gbit.

Maximum on wireless depends on not just the router, your wireless NIC matters too. N150, N300, N600, N750, N900 are common ratings.

You have to buy an AC adapter if you want to use. Recommend the Asus PCE-AC66 or USB-AC53 :)

No international speed cap.

No, it is the maximum theoretical speed on respective bands.

You should get an email in your inbox once it has went through.

300Mbps thats wireless
900Mbps he means to plug it in your LAN cable and use wired.

Yes I understand the part where when it is hardwired will achieve 900Mbps, I want to know where mentioned this 900 Mbps

U can check out reviews online regarding the WAN to LAN speed. Smallnetbuilder says its 800++Mbps. However personally I was confirmed by MR that it can support 900+Mbps

It could be firmware differences. However 800++Mbps is quite at the top liao for wired at the moment.

1. No one knows really but do you seriously think they can survive without oversubscription? Maybe you should start an ISP with 1-2 users with each given 10Gbps bandwidth.

2. I'm sure MR lawyers are very careful what they put in corporate quotations or SLA since they can be held accountable for it. If that is worse case scenario then all IS department will take that figure into consideration in risk assessment.

3. CIR is for frame relay network only. How many horsepower does a Tesla S have? Since Tesla can't give you an answer that means it equals 0 so it can't move?!

Different scenario man... providers are supposed to quote a CIR in the worst case scenario, not quoting one = how the hell you know whats the minimum guaranteed speed in the worst case the network is oversubscribed to high heavens? Are you trusting that VQ will always provide you the speed close to what you signed up for as a commit? It's a lot of llst and accept it unless you can afford to pay for high CIR. I've got both VQ and MR connection and both have been performing to spec as far as I'm concerned. Why are you so concerned over CIR? :|

I don't think he is because he just saved me $10 from subscribing to the gamer plan which I probably don't need! (since I mostly play on local and SEA servers).

Well, I speak based on truth... Local and SEA side you would expect a reasonable latency considering the location right? Just like you wouldn't expect any ISP to give you 200ms for any location in Singapore? ;)

He somehow feels that VQ is 10x much better than MR and sees the need to bash it every now and then.

My NIC is realtek pcie gbe family controller, so it should support up to 1gbps, right?

So in this case, even if I were to use wired directly from any of the three router provided, I should in theory able to hit 1gbps, right?

For wireless, let say for AC56U. If i had a 802.11n card, I can only reach wireless speed up to 300mpbs and if i have a 802.11ac card, i can reach a speed up to 867mpbs. Not any higher, right?

For the online order, I did received a call saying my order, service application and Photocopy IC was received. I didn't receive any more email other than the "MyRepublic Order Documents Submission‏" and when I click on the link in that email, I was send back to the first page of the order form(as though I have never make any order or submit any form at all..)
Guess I should call back and check again. Kinda regretting doing the order online now, is it to late to get someone up my house to do the order for me?=:p

so how does a N56U and AC68U performance varies when they are subscribed to a similar ultra plan?

1Gbps plan with N56U, assume wireless connection setup, how much typical DL speed will I get?

Wired speed 802Mbps? Wireless will be 60% drop that will be 320Mbps?

1Gbps plan with AC68U, assume wireless connection setup, how much typical DL speed will I get?

Wired speed 754Mbps? Wireless will be 60% drop that will be 301Mbps?
