Really depends... for some customers the 2.4GHz band in their area is totally swarmed with wireless APs that no matter which channel they choose they will always face a fair amount of interference. You need to check with inSSIDer. 5GHz generally aims to solve this by being on a different frequency, but your hardware has to support it as well.

Just to add on, since TS appears confused: an AC adapter is required to connect at AC. Else, the computer will connect at N; the N speed will depend on distance from router, walls, interference on the 5GHz channel selected, and the capabilities of the adapter (e.g. a 3x3 N adapter can give you 300+ effectively, same room).

I've been unable to exceed 545, AC, same room, but can comfortably exceed 300, N, same room.

making me more confused , I would like to know is the 802.11ac a specification that a motherboard must have to use the ac adapter? Example, a USB 3.0 device will not work on a computer with USB 2.0 port to fully utilize the speed.

meaning to say buying a powerful router at this point of time is redundant? Since 802.11ac specification is still relatively new in the market and not all MB can support ac requirement...Hope some experts here can clear the doubt.

LOL. bro. your motherboard is gigabit lan. and don't think there a WLAN built in.
U need to buy a wireless card if you want to use wireless.
