I'm interested to know a little bit more about the network upgrade MR is doing in preparation for the influx of the 1gbps plan subscribers (myself included). Anyone know or have any idea what is going on in the backend?

they have more than enough pipes to burst thru the Internet...but if it's just for YouTube...I don't wanna comment about googles current CDN policy. I know we have tons of bandwidth.... but do check about which traffic light ISP here have excess of TB data pipes for consumers

Something interesting to share.

My MR internet connections has been pretty flaky this past week.
I have intermittent issue but most of the time, it was brief.
I had initially brushed this off as M.R doing upgrades to their network.

Connection went down for good last evening and i spent sometime on this.
Symptoms of the issue, static IP was not working and changing to DHCP on my Asus WAN router seems to fix the issue sometimes.

Turns out one of my neighbor must have started using homeplug as well.
My Aztech homeplug went haywire and somehow pair with another homeplug outside of my HDB flat.

So when i turn on the static IP on my router, nothing works because the WAN port is on the LAN segment of another household. When i change to DHCP, the WAN port got the IP from someone else device.

It was only when i set to DHCP and check my external IP on ipchicken.com did i realise i was on a Starhub connections.

I needed to change my setup from:

ONT > Homeplug > Router > LAN to PC

to

ONT > Router > wireless to PC

Now my desktop is running on pathetic wireless.
Homeplug is no longer an option and this is extremely painful.

For people who are thinking of laying cables or using homeplug, you have one more big reason to run cables.

I'm also facing the same problem recently. It's seems that I'm not the only one affected. The funny thing is that it only started recently. Has it got to do with MR network upgrade?

Nah, it has totally nothing to do with MR upgrade. When i bypass everything and connect to the ONT, its good. You can test direct to ONT, if its good.... then it is your router or homeplug issue.

Can't u just

Ont > router > home plug (then) home plug > PC

There, u can have wireless connections too albeit, speed will suffer.
During which, make sure u reset your home plug.

If I can put the router directly to the ONT, i wont be buying the homeplug in the first place.
Anyway, even if i set it up, still wont work because the homeplug pairing has gone haywired.

I managed to reset and pair up my homeplug. Setup a new private network name for the homeplug instead of using the default. Back to my original setup and so far so good.

The interference from your neighbour's Homeplug can degrade your Homeplug performance. Do a speed test to double confirm.

Alternatively, you can get an AC router and use the wireless AC to bridge across the secondary router.
