MR..call me leh...

I got my call yesterday, scheduled an OpenNet installation (for port 2 activation) and then an MR installation. Your call will come very soon I think.

I shifted to my current place 2 years back and had the whole house cat6 network wired and I am shooting myself in the foot if I am not jumping on the 1Gbps wagon...
I am still on Starhub cable broadband (yes, 25mbps!) cause I am patiently waiting for the day 1Gbps become price viable... and I am glad MR takes the first step... Well done!
Having say that, being something new and now it's only on beta test, I am still deliberating... Can it truly deliver? My starhub cable broadband expires in June 2014... home already has fibre TP installed... Will be pitching tent on this thread to watch progress...
But it's definitely worth a considering... question is... am I still eligible for the $49.90 pricing and if I register, when will be the earliest installation?
When MR sells you a 1Gbps plan (or indeed any operator with any plan), it just means that your last-mile connection to your ISP's local router/switch is capable of transporting data at a theoretical 1Gbps (raw signal information).
Your download/upload speed (as measured by tools like speedtest.net) tries to download/upload some data from a known, managed server to test your connection to that particular server.
For MR to let you test your plan, they can simply host their own 'speedtest' server right at their data center which is at a minimal number of hops away to you. You can see some numbers which makes you go "WOW", but that will not be reflective of your internet speed experience at all. Because you won't be accessing content from MR 99.999999% of the time.
The servers which host the content which you want (e.g. Facebook.com, Google.com, Youtube.com) are not hosted within MR's managed network. All MR can do is to make sure they have proper peering agreements with other ISPs that host those content. You will almost never get anywhere near your 1Gbps capacity.
What will be a useful scenario that will maximize your 1Gbps capacity? Interestingly enough, BitTorrent. If you are downloading chunks of data from other MR subscribers, ideally the traffic will be routed exclusively within MR's managed network. If all of MR's interconnects within their managed network is "fat" enough, you could see your download speed closing in on the magical 1Gbps capacity.
I think you got me wrong. What I mean was is there any way to verify we are getting what we have subscribed?
Why need activate port2? I thought for 1GB, MR will use their own ONT?

To anyone who missed the 3161 call from MR, do call them back and leave your contact details.
I missed my call and left my detail with someone who pick it up. After that Priscilla from MR called me back almost immediately to arrange installation for me. Kudos to Priscilla and MR!!
Scheduled for 24th March 2-6pm..
You will be given the option to choose from the morning installation timing or the afternoon (2-6pm) timing.
Can't wait..![]()

I think its because I have a current StarHub fibre subscription that's on Port 1 (plan will expire May 2014). OpenNet has to activate port 2 for the beta installation.
If I am not wrong, elimmel is already on MR.
I find it weird that why is there a need to activate TP Port 2 since there is no switch of RSP?
Any MR staff can advise whether TP Port 2 is required to be activated for 1Gbps plan if the user is currently on MR (e.g. PURE 100Mbps) that is using TP Port 1?
I can't speak the same for my less than fruitful conversation with the people that I spoke to after getting a miss call. Called them back and someone was supposed to call back after leaving my details. No one called, after some pushing here and there initially saying my contract had expired to them lacking my application and needing my signature to confirm stuff, the results of the conversation is CSO saying my area is not ready till late April.... Flabbergasted.
Hopefully nivlek will get my PM and see what should truly be conveyed.
