That is a very detail review of the app, thank you. If they charge 6cts/min for local calling via app (which I don't think so) then Simba Voice app has an edge though. 😀

a follow up after the nov&dec&jan trips.

roaming coverage is dependant on their roaming partners, so won't dwell on that.

went on several trips in SEA with eight, Simba, MR SIMs, didn't buy any local SIMs. Installed both Simba and MR VOIP apps. All phones were android with varying Android versions.

Clarity for both equally good, provided on decent wifi/4G/5G connection.

Made a number of calls in various countries, to SG numbers (both in SG and fellow travellers) and local numbers.
MR charged me SGD0.01/min for all calls. No charge for receiving calls. I can live with that :ROFLMAO:

I have not been able to figure out how to have Simba app receive calls when it is not in the foreground, while MR had no problems, will continue to test with more trips in the coming months, but am leaning towards MR as a long term travel number. The cost is minor, but at least i can receive calls, vs free but crippled functionality.
It can also be simultaneously installed on more than 1 phone, so that extends the life of my old but still functional phones.

So you mean MR 5G is using NSA+SA and better speed and coverages? Zym SA setting is grey off in iphone and not supported.

Thanks
NSA and SA coverages are the same. They use the same cell tower and antenna. But SA speed should be on average faster than NSA

Need advice. I re-contracted with MR and the appointment was last Friday, the technician did not show up, he called me to tell me my appointment was "not in the system". I raised the issue that my contract is ending on 21 Feb, the technician told me vaguely it doesn't matter and made vague promises to come on Monday (today), nobody showed up today.

They sent an email making a false claim that I was not at home for the appointment and l have to request a reschedule, in effect an additional $21.80 may apply.

My contract is ending on 21 Feb, and the chatbot told me I would be charged non-promotional rates for the time between my contract end to the time my new contract start. So what the technician told me over the phone is false? The chatbot advised that I submit a Price Plan difference waiver, after the installation is complete to claim back the difference, should I follow this advice?

Does the new contract start running once my old contract end, or is there a gap in-between, where only after the installation, the new contract starts?

Is it possible for me to terminate the re-contract at this point in time?

I have already rescheduled a new date and asked for the 21.80 to be waived. Has anyone faced this before, need advice on how to proceed from here.

This is MR Mobile thread.

You should have over to MR Fibre thread instead.

Anyways, for the appointment, did you receive any email stating the date & time? If yes, use it to question MR on the delays.
I suggest to have it logged i.e. email in to MR, so that MR cannot delay/taichi this any longer.
Do not bother with the technician as they are subcons and will not bother with all these contractuals issues you have with MR. (Like food delivery, the delivery personnel is in charge of delivering only)
Head straight to MR to have this logged and rectified. Otherwise, just loop in IMDA if they still continue trying to be funny.

Yes, non-promotional rate will apply once out of contract therefore, its essential you have this logged down in writing so that you can seek redress like waiver etc. later on once your installation is resolved.
What is crucial now is to get your installation set and not delayed further.

Was on 4g also leh. Maybe my phone cmi le. I'm using 23u. What phone u use

NP2 for main phone.
have 1+6 as backup - did SIM swap, same same.
previously tried on s21+, same same. this phone already sold off

edit: the other mvno on m1 4g previously used 2019-2022, was CL. MR 4G has same performance, which is, *ahem* below expectations.

Indeed, Simba call app can only receive call when the screen is on and the app is on the foreground. In such aspect, MR call app is really more superior.

Indeed, that was my conclusion during recent travels. informally, gatering from replies, receiving is only a problem on android, iphone appears ok. For me, it's cheaper to run just 1 MR number than buy an iphone, plus the app can be simultaneously installed on several phones.

i suspect that is why Simba removed the app from play store - it's is not coded to "co-operate" within the Android security framework, unlike the MR app (MR also runs a VOIP service, so that puts them at an advantage in this respect). When you ask about support, they jitao tell you to buy new phone instead, and refuse to discuss further about the app and how to make it work.

But Simba is really more flexible in topping up main wallet, even CDC voucher is possible. MR seems to be restricted to CC payment if I am not mistaken? May be incoming calls is really not that crucial, just spam calls anyway. 🤣

Just received. Competition is good, although truth be told, way too much and performance is on the low side (speed and coverage is same as Simba)

If they made that 188GB data as "SG-World", or at least "SG-APAC+Greater China" then yes, they will slay the competition, but for now, nope.

(SVC MSG) Good news! Your Saver Plan is geting better. Soon you'll enjoy 188GB FOREVER - at the same $8.71/mth. Stay tuned for updates! T&Cs apply.

Yes, very true for payment. that's why, i only have 1 line for travel.
Simba also for travel (outside eight "APAC", coverage) but just for data ie "dumb pipe"

Have you tried any of Myrepublic's 5G plans?

Nope. I understand they share 5G with SH and it's on par. and much better than their 4G.
I am using 4G soley because they only allow their VOIP app on the 4G plan. I don't think it's a technical reason.

Are you using MR 5G? How is your experience?

My wife's phone is on MR 5G. I haven't heard any complaints from her yet. I did try to measure bandwidth with Speedtest on her phone at City Hall MRT / Citylink / Suntec / Marina Square area several times, and the speeds were boosted significantly beyond 100 Mbps (can't recall the exact figure). She never complained about the connection in MRT.
