Really don't know how they assess or just randomly pick. I need to pay the 100 deposit. No car/house loan. Credit card less than 5 w/o any outstanding payment.

Those kena the 100. You managed to find out the reason(s)?

Nothing to do with house loan, car loan or credit card.

To do with Telco Credit Report. Since this report has NRIC (which means rough age), address, default summary and it’s status, the number of enquiries. There should be a formula.

Scoring would include:

(1) Age (just like how car insurance more expensive for younger Drivers)

(2) Location of stay (if you stay certain address, might be more prone to defaulting)

(3) Default History and Outstanding amount. If keeps increasing then poor scoring

(4) Many Enquiries by other telcos, could be higher risk as perceived to have more lines.

MR may already have a pool of users from their data base that default, late payment. The same set of data will be perceived by MR differently using their in-house algorithm to calculate risk of default.

I actually went down to Vivo wanting to signup on the spot. The counter staff told me $100 deposit takes into consideration financial credit ratings from CBS. Both the guy and gal sitting at the counter sing the same tune agreeing with one another.

I jitao roll my eyes. :s22:

In case u guys are keen, my CBS credit rating has always been AA, last retrieved in March 2020, and whichever organisation accessed your reports will be shown. For that matter, I HAVE NOT seen a non-financial institution gained access to my CBS reports.

If you are interested, CBS's FAQ here: https://www.creditbureau.com.sg/faq-cbs-information.html

I think MyRepublic should publish how they derive $100 deposit requirement, at least some minimum requirements, like how main telcos require $200 deposit for foreigners etc.

Otherwise, it's just plain sneaky way of extorting monies from random applicants without telling you why.

yes, i think the issue now is why there is inconsistency on the practice only. If person A required to pay $100 at MyRepublic. Same goes to telco B, C, D, E..... Then it makes sense.

If person A only gets it at MyRepublic but not other telcos. this is where it makes them confused and puzzled. anyway, the $100 is refundable back to the original credit card that is charged upon termination, actually not a big deal. may one can earn rebate with $100 paid with credit card used. End up making extra instead also. haha.

In the application with the rest of my particulars intact (like dob) , I changed the nric number to my wife and dad, both went thru w/o the need for deposit.

Based on the FAQ, I fail to fathom their algorithm for deposit. Anyway, no point pressing for an answer since their reply would probably be the same. Money still belongs to me. Just park with them first until I decided to change mvno.

Normal CBS report is not the same as Telco Credit Report; which gathers one's relationship with the 3 traffic light Telcos. Check in CBS website.

Anyway, it's your money and you don't have to give it to MR, lots of service provider in the market.

Every company has their own protocol for risk assessment, just like different Telcos comes out with different plans. What's there to be confused about? :s11:

End of day, simply go with the one which makes you feel welcome.

every telcos has their own policies or procedures but it does not mean that as a customer cannot have questions or doubts over them before deciding whether to commit or not. It is just part of the process. Nothing wrong for one to have doubts over it and raise it for discussion too especially for people who are new to myrepublic.

$12 actually including delivery. Since almost all MVNOs provide free Sim, free delivery.

Actually with just 88 ending is not sufficient. Giga! has 8889 xx88.

No contract. Can port out anytime.

Technically today u sign up a new line with one telco B by porting in your number from telco A, next day can port out to another telco C. Technically you just need one working day for each switch.

looking to get a nice new number , able to guide new tele to go into first and then port to ?

Reiterate once again, can have doubts, can question, can write on their FB... but what's there to be confused about?

Are you confused with why SingTel SIm only plan seems to cost more than for example M1? :s11:

End of the day, just go sign up with Circles.Life, M1, Giga, Vivifi, Redone, Grid.... etc etc, plenty of choices

Singaporeans have yet to face the issue of having to pay a deposit in order to gain access to a service like a work permit holder. Many work permit holders do not have this privilege of not paying a deposit except for certain telco (MNO).

Any telco will not tell you the reason for giving you the privilege, as it discriminates the person by means of a algorithm. I can tell you all that default payment is not the only scoring area MR used, simply because I had quite a few default payments on my ST SH M1 bills which are late in nature in the last 6-12 months.

The deposit should be a 2-3months of the monthly service fee to better reflect the need to recover outstandings. Maybe some can feedback to MR?

Maybe those that got the $100 deposit can share their age range, gender and where they stay so we get a feel on how MR did their scoring.

Like I said in my post earlier, Singaporean confused because they haven’t encounter deposit. Ask as a work permit holder to ST SH M1, one of them has no requirement for deposit and home address. That telco is M1.
