Name on boarding pass

Hi would like to check if anyone has experience in the matter below,

I booked my tics thru those 3rd party websites eg. Zuji

I only entered my English name and surname. Cos the field put First Name and Last Name. Without thinking much (first time I'm booking it myself). only after I checked my tics on the actual airline then I realized oh no I should have keyed in full name as per passport. Now I'm worried they won't let me board, I have already checked with the airline and they asked me to check with the 'travel agent' whereas the 'travel agent' told me they might charge me a nominal fee. I'm waiting on more news from them.

Entered for ticket: Edmund Tan
Name on Passport: Edmund Tan Wei Jian

Not necessarily. Earlier this year I took a jetstar flight. Even though I put full name when booking, the e-ticket only show English name + Surname.

My problem was jetstar auto check in can't recognize my passport cos passport got full name. So I had to check in at counter (but didn't have any problems).

Of cos it's not necessarily the same with other airlines so if they charge you something reasonable then I'd do the name change for full comfort.

Jetstar baording pass and eticket won't show full name, first and last only, but their system will have the middle name (if you entered during purchasing) and they can check.

Not so much at the boarding gate, but security people at the entry point to the restricted area check your boarding pass against your passport letter for letter, especially in China and US.

From my past experience when travelling with my friends. One of my friend got denied at the Airport Check-in counter because he did not use his full name as shown in his passport to do the booking. The staff at the counter gave the reason that the name he used for booking did not tally with his passport.

For example, in his passport, his full name is Tan Ah Kow. But the name he used for booking is James Tan.

Only after some negotiation and explanation with the supervisor or manager, they finally agreed to change the booking name for him and allowed him to check-in.

As for the Boarding pass, it only shows our First name and Last name. And during online booking, you only need to fill in the First Name and Last Name too.

For example if your full name in your passport is James Tan Ah Kow, then during booking your First Name should be Ah Kow, James and Last Name should be your surname which is Tan.

Which airline? Usually it is not an issue, with the exception for flights to the US and Australia.

In Europe might be problem too. The custom quite anal. I have hanyupinyin name in brackets. Sometimes they ask Wu ah bo. Now can change then just do it lo

Check-in staff can over-ride the name to be printed on the boarding pass. Just saying.

I have flown and entered China, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea and Australia with no issues with Tab/Edmund format. But note that I have the residency visa for Australia. If not, Australia can be quite anal.

Now a day security is the most important. I am sure they will stop you. Last time 1 character typo also cannot - it happen to me.

Actually the title should be "Name on ticket". Thanks for all your replies. I am still desperately waiting for a reply from the 'travel agent' AKA the 3rd party booking website. Not sure if I should call in to Thai Air directly since I have already emailed and they replied asking me to contact the 'travel agent' as it was booked by them.

I took a look at my passport and the listed name was Edmund Tan Wei Jian (my registered birth name). The bottom is something like >TAN>>EDMUND>WEI>JIAN

I had a friend who included her English name "Annabel" in her ticket but her passport only "Tan Ah Lian" so Scoot made her buy a new ticket and she did cos' boarding already.

I will be flying Thai Air. Scully kana detained at BKK airport will anot? Yea I was hoping maybe can ask them to overwrite and reprint the boarding pass for me. My last travelled boarding pass was TAN/WEIJIANEDMU (name kana cut off but I guess it was spelt out in full during booking).

So now is whether can get through the stage with the immigration officer when checking in. If only I wasn't so kanchiong to book the tickets without my passport and had clarified the First and Last Name thing first. :noob:

Aiya even if can change why u all don't bother to check n change earlier. Save urself some time n worries. I still wanna quote wat my international Mobility team words.. "SQ or Changi airport can ,doesn't mean other airlines or airport can".

Many of us are just spoilt by our local stuff.

You can write it anyway whatever stated on your passport must be included in the booking info can already
If Edmund is in your passport you must include in the booking,order of name doesn't matter
Can be Edmund tan Wei Jian or tan wei Jian Edmund

i took the gamble la, i booked thru edreams, then i contacted airasia, they asked me go to travel agent, and travel agent asked me to check with airline.

so in the end i just let it be. heng they let my friend up.

she doesn't even know my error :-/

Reopening this old thread.. If my name on passport is Tan Ah Kow Peter, but the booking name is just Tan Ah Kow, is this OK?
We booked Jetstar via Agoda and just realized that the name on the booking is just Tan Ah Kow... the flight is 3 weeks away.

and when you buy air ticket, you put Tan Ah Kow
